THE SHADOW
PART 1- The Shadow
It was the first full moon of the year. A thunderstorm was coming. Two workers were carrying
an old painting to a small museum in a town on the coast of Nova Scotia. The museum used to
be an old mansion on the edge of town surrounded by a rusted iron fence. The two workers
had finished unpacking some of the other artifacts.
Finally they came to the painting and as they were carrying it down the hall one of the workers
said “You know this painting it supposed to be haunted.”
“That kind of stuff doesn’t exist. It’s just a myth to scare people” said the second worker.
“No,” said the first worker, “there is a story about this painting and the old man who originally
owned this mansion. The mansion originally belonged to an old man who once went on a trip
away from Nova Scotia. When he came back he never seemed the same. He swore to the
people of the town that he saw a huge shadow of a wolf. He said the wolf stood up on two legs.
He heard a clap of thunder and a crack of lightening as the shadow of the wolf lunged at him.
The only thing he remembered was a growling, raspy voice saying one day I will return to your
town and take revenge. As he blacked out he thought he heard a howl of a wolf.”
Suddenly there was a crack of thunder and a flash of lightening. The workers dropped the
painting. It scraped on the corner of a crate causing a slight tear in the canvas.
The first worker said “Hey be careful with that painting. It’s over a hundred years old and is
worth a lot right now.”
Neither worker saw the thin, black shadow slowly flowing out of the tear in the canvas and
disappearing into the wall. Then as the workers were taking the painting to the exhibit room a
huge shadowy wolf rose up on the wall and stood on two legs! The Shadow crept silently until
one worker said “Hey I thought we were the only workers on tonight”.
“We are.” said the other worker.
“Then why do I see a shadow down there?” the other worker pointed at the shadow.
“It’s probably just a crate. I’ll go check.” As the worker walked down the hall the shadow leaped
at him. The worker ran and when the other worker saw the shadow the both leaped through
the window and were never seen again. At least not by normal people. The Shadow
approached the window and howled and said in that same growling raspy voice “Finally, I’m
free again.”
PART 2-Connor
The next day a boy about the age of 14 went to the supernatural exhibit at the museum for a
school project. He brought his two friends Ryan and Sarah. The boy’s name was Connor. The
project was to choose a supernatural being to write a report about. Connor chose the Shadow
from the myth. His friend Ryan chose the werewolves and Sarah chose the vampire. They
passed statues, paintings, carvings, and even what looked like werewolf fur. Then they saw the
painting of the Shadow. When they moved closer they discovered that there was a slight tear in
the canvas. Then when the old man who used to own this building saw the tear he ran yelling
“The Shadow is coming!”
Connor then felt a sharp pain in his head. He heard a ghostly voice say “You must stop the
shadow.”
When Connor opened his eyes his friends had him lying flat on the floor. When the ambulance
arrived Connor was on his feet and slowly he was heading toward the gift shop. He took out his
money and bought several books about the shadow. His friends got books about their
supernatural beings. Connor also got a shadow statue for his room. When they got outside his
friends asked if he was ok. He said he was fine but when he started to walk again he collapsed.
PART 3-Hospital Escape
“Stop the Shadow, Connor. It wants revenge.” said a ghostly voice.
When Connor woke he gripped his head and said in a weak tired voice “Where am I?”
“The hospital, you collapsed and got a minor concussion” said Sarah.
“Just before I passed out I saw a huge shadowy wolf” said Connor.
AH!!!! Connor gripped his head from the sharp pain. “We need to get out of here and get to
the museum tonight”.
“How” said Ryan.
“There” said Connor he pointed to a window. “We can break the glass and lower our selves
down with those straps from the closet”.
“Ok” said Sarah.
We’ll do it at midnight” said Connor.
PART 3-The Shadow is Coming… WITH HELP!
The clock struck midnight as Connor, Sarah and Ryan tied the straps together and prepared to
break the window and lower themselves to the ground. Just then they heard a loud howling
sound. Connor saw a black shadowy form rise up on the wall. Connor looked out the window
and saw a man wearing a pure black cloak. The man began to briskly walk towards the hospital
as the clock struck midnight. The next few things happened extremely fast. As the man walked
up the steps they heard a scratching sound. Sarah turned and screamed as the shadow leaped
at them. Ryan felt slow, steady breathing on the back of his neck. As he turned around he saw a
huge shadowy wolf with razor sharp claws, fangs sharper than steak knives and gleaming red
eyes.
Connor yelled, “Get to the window!”
He threw a wooden block at the Shadow. It went right through the shadow and shattered the
window with a loud crashing sound. Nurses and doctors came running. The man in the black
cloak stood in the hall making sure no one got into the room. Then Ryan grabbed the straps and
tied them to the window frame. Then he slowly lowered himself out the window. Connor
charged towards the Shadow. The Shadow lunged at him but Connor jumped just above the
Shadow and grabbed the straps and started to slide down to the ground. Sarah was still in the
room.
The Shadow growled in his raspy voice “Finally I will have my revenge starting with you.”
As the Shadow was swinging his claw at her, Sarah did a front shoulder roll and jumped through
the shattered window. She gripped the straps and slid to the ground.
The Shadow ran and leaped through the window floating until it reached the museum on the
deserted hill. It then disappeared into the museum wall.
Connor, Ryan and Sarah began to run toward the museum. They reached the iron gate and
pushed it open with a loud creak. They ran up the long hill to the museum door with the wind
howling behind them. Lightening crackled through the sky.
Part 5- The Shadow at Sunrise
When the three friends finally got inside the museum the door slammed shut behind them.
Connor saw a faint light in the distance.
Connor said “Come on we have to get to the painting of the Shadow and a mirror.”
They started walking slowly towards the painting of the shadow. They heard a scratching sound
beside them. They turned to see a message scratched into the wall with what looked like razor
sharp claws. The message said turn to your left and walk three steps.
Connor slowly turned to his left and walked three steps. He then heard a scratching sound. He
spun around and saw another message on the wall. The message read walk to the end of the
room and wait until the third clap of thunder.
Connor slowly walked to the other end of the room and counted three claps of the thunder.
The last message read look behind you.
Connor looked behind him as the Shadow leaped from the wall and stood snarling thirteen feet
from him. Connor backed up and felt a mirror behind him. He took it off the wall. The shadow
moved slowly toward saying “I will have my revenge.”
Ryan said “I’ll hold him off.” He ran at the shadow screaming.
Connor yelled “Sarah get the painting”.
The sun slowly started to rise. Connor lifted the mirror and Sarah lifted the painting. As the
sunlight reflected off the mirror, the shadow howled with pain when the light hit him. He slowly
started to turn toward a stream of light as the shadow got sucked back into the painting.
Connor and Sarah then collapsed.
Part 6- Shadow: Trapped or Not?
The shadow painting was locked in a safe. Connor, Sarah and Ryan got an A+ each on their
projects. They never saw the stranger from the hospital again. Later that night there was one
loud clap of thunder and the shadow slowly started to rise up behind the safe and said in that
raspy voice “Finally I’m free again.”
