                 What is RTI?
1. RTI is a general education initiative.

2. RTI is designed as an early intervention.

3. RTI is a problem solving model.

4. RTI intervention plans are designed, implemented,
   and monitored by a multi-disciplinary team of
   professionals.

5. The RTI in Georgia is a 4 Tier process called the
   Pyramid of Interventions (POI).

• For the 2008-09 school year,
  Academy of Reading by AutoSkill
  and their Response to Intervention
  Package was introduced to all
  schools.

    • A Universal Screening
      for reading fluency has
      been conducted on all
      students grades 1
      through 7.
    • All schools have
      personnel trained in
      Academy of Reading
      and Academy of Math.
    • All schools have an
      RTI Team.

• Provides data to assist with decision
  making
• Evaluates curriculum or instructional
  issues
• Tells us which students are “at risk” and
  need supplemental instruction/intervention

• Part of Academy of Reading
• Administered to those who scored at the
  “below basic” level, at least 2 grade levels
• NOT automatically scored
• Language Arts teachers scored
• National Assessment of Educational
  Progress Fluency Rubric
  – total words, number of errors and fluency
    level (# 1- 4)
Oral Fluency – 7th grade
             Academy of Math
• Placement test starts 2 levels below the
  assigned grade level
• 10 questions for each level
• The program automatically scores the
  students’ placement test
• A performance level is given (below basic,
  basic, proficient, advanced, graduate)
       Behavior/Emotional Screening
• BASC-2 Behavioral and Emotional
  Screening System (BESS)
• Completed by classroom teachers
• No special training required
• 25 questions
• Can be completed in approx. 5 minutes
• It assesses a wide array of behaviors
• Includes internalizing problems,
  externalizing problems, school problems,
  and adaptive skills.
