Culver Park Students Honored
The Exchange Club of Culver City announces two students from Culver Park
High School were honored as A.C.E. (Accepting the Challenge of Excellence) recipi-
ents.
Roland Gonzales and Brooke Carey received the award for the month of
February due to their hard work and efforts at improving their academic performances.
The ACE Award recognizes high school students who have had to overcome great
physical, emotional or social obstacles and are now eligible for high school graduation.
This special recognition serves as a powerful example to all students that hard
work and perseverance really do pay. Both Roland and Brooke will have a chance to
go on to Exchange Club District recognition which involves a competition to win $2,500
scholarship funds.

Science has something to do with healing through
prayer without the use of material medicine. Do you
wonder why anyone would choose a totally spiritual
form of healthcare? Is it safe? Is it effective? How does
it work?
Answers to these questions will be given in this talk,

is done and how it not only restores health but also gives a higher purpose and

The laws of God that made biblical healing possible are still operative and

Platinum Studios Make Deal
Sony Pictures Animation Culver City has set a deal with Platinum Studios, Inc.,
an entertainment company that controls an international library of comic book charac-
ters which it adapts, produces and licenses for all forms of media, to develop an ani-
mated feature.
The announcement was made by Bob Osher, president of Sony Pictures
Digital Productions and Hannah Minghella, president of production for Sony Pictures
Animation.
Platinum Studios, which controls an international library of comics and graphic
novel content with over 5,600 characters, brings comic book projects to feature film and
television. This marks another collaboration between Sony and Platinum Studios CEO
Scott Mitchell Rosenberg, following the billion dollar franchise, "Men In Black," which is
one of the most successful comic book to film adaptations of all time.
"I have known and respected Scott Rosenberg for many years as a great
resource of characters, stories and ideas," said Osher. "We're looking forward to work-
ing with him and Platinum Studios to develop a feature from their library of stories and

Outlaws - Western Grub for the Cowboy in You
Since there oughta be a law against slabs of meat this big on plates this wide with round-

worth lickin’ your fingertips after.
It’s an easy, comfortable spot for a meal and then some with later evening hours for those
nights when you work it past sunset. Come hungry, feel welcome, leave satisfied.

cowboys and cowgirls who may be interested in something a little more special can get

Billingsley’s Prime Rib & Steakhouse
Billingsley’s Prime Rib & Steakhouse, established by the family of “Leave It To Beaver”

Home cookin’ here in includes daily early bird specials (4:30 to 6:30) the likes of coun-

days gone by, these meals are “all included,” with choice of fresh soup of the day or a
green salad with good ‘ol iceberg lettuce, croutons made from the house’s own garlic
toast drenched with butter and the signature Green Goddess Dressing. The bread hits
the table almost as soon as you can sit at it, the service is polite and refreshingly polished
and the coffee only comes in two varieties, regular and decaf. This meaty menu is bal-
anced by a wide selection of chicken, entrée salads, pastas and fish dishes from lobster
at market price to traditional fish ‘n chips or fried shrimp. For the lighter appetite, there
is a selection of old school appetizers including nachos, fried calamari, potato skins,
stuffed mushrooms and shrimp cocktail and a thorough sandwich and burger menu.
The dessert “tray” features treats such as fresh carrot cake with a uniquely light butter-
cream frosting, but for the upcoming day of the heart, consider their signature straw-

Culver Playoff Berths Uncertain
Boys, Girls Lose
To Santa Monica
By Dale Williams
Observer Reporter
The Culver City High boys' and girls' basketball teams entered this week's
final regular-season games with the chance to make the CIF playoffs but losses to
Santa Monica Tuesday night made the task more difficult.
The girls' team probably had the best chance to get to the postseason,
with a 14-11 overall record and 4-4 Ocean League mark entering the week before
losing to Santa Monica, 73-52. The Centaurs were in fourth place in league, behind
Inglewood, Santa Monica and Beverly Hills.
Culver City is scheduled to play Beverly Hills to wrap up the regular sea-
son..
Even if the Centaurs didn't finish in the top three in league, they still had a
good shot at grabbing an at-large spot.
"We're starting to really play well right now," Culver City girls' coach Jack
Nakanishi said. "We're starting to jell, and I think this is the right time to do that."
Last week, the girls' team went 1-1, defeating Morningside 53-37 and los-
ing to Inglewood 63-49.
Savannah Erskine scored 18 points to lead the Centaurs in the win over
Morningside. Erskine also led Culver City with 16 points against Inglewood.
The Culver City boys' team entered this week with an 8-16 overall record
and a 2-6 Ocean League mark, but while the Centaurs won't finish in the top three
in league they still have a shot at getting one of the 12 or so at-large berths for the
CIF playoffs.
Last week, Culver City lost to Morningside 58-49 and Inglewood 74-53 and
were routed Tuesday by Santa Monica, 63-29.
"Mathematically, we can't get an automatic bid into the playoffs, but we will
still submit an at-large petition," Centaurs coach Jonathan Chapman said. "As I
look at our Division, III-AA, the way it works is that you have a number of automatic
entries, which makes up top 20, anyone not in that can turn in at-large petition.
"Our strength of schedule will have us in the playoff mix. We've played bet-
ter than our record indicates. We've hung tough in most of our games, and there's
several games we had a chance to win but didn't."
Cameron Darby scored 20 points to lead the Centaurs against
Morningside, and Darby again led the way with 15 points against Inglewood, while
Derek Farrar had 12 points and Isaiah Gathright-Hawkins added 11.
Culver City High junior guard Alexandria Lewis drives the lane against
Inglewood. She leads the Lady Centaurs in scoring-averaging 11.4 points
per game and is shooting 51 per cent from the floor including her three-point
shots. Lewis is second on the team in assists and steals.
