More than 87,000 sq km
 (37%) of the landmass
 of the country are
 contaminated, covering
 14 out of 17 provinces,
 and 25% of all the
 villages.

       Clearance Activities 1996-2009
Together the Clearance operators have
Cleared:
25,060.63 ha (250, 60 sq km)of land, including:
15,635.43 ha (156,35 sq km)for Agriculture, and
  9,425.20 ha (94,25 sq km)for other Development; and
Destroyed:
1,093,114 UXOs, including:
  472,587 Bombies,
     6,064 Mines,
     5,387 Bombs.
  609,076 other UXOs,

              MRE Activities 1996-2009
Conducted by 5 Operators and other organizations
• MRE materials for high risk group, UXO school
  curriculum and parenting module printed and
  distributed;
• MRE guideline developed;
• Workshop with provincial radio stations; airing MRE
  radio spots in 3 ethnic languages;
• Training on behaviour change communication to MRE
  operators;
• Workshops to raise awareness to tourism business with
  regard to discourage people collecting UXO to sell or
  display for tourists.




                        VA Activities
Phase 1 Survey of UXO Accidents and Victims started
  in February 2008, covering the period from 1964 to
  the date of enumeration.
• Conducted nationwide: 17 provinces, 139 districts,
  9,066 villages (out of 9,583 villages);
• Recorded 50,136 casualties, of which 30,128 during
  the conflict years to 1973, and 20,008 in the post-
  conflict years from 1974;
• 29,410 (69%) killed in the accidents;
• 20,726 (41%) survived with injuries.

                              Phase 2 Survey
    •   Ongoing
    •   From 1st January 2008
    •   Collecting data on accidents and victims
    •   All village Chiefs are requested to report accidents
    •   NRA Surveyors investigate on the ground, and
    •   Bring back detailed report on
        - accidents, and
        - casualties.




                  Exchange of Information
• TWG on Clearance meets once a month;
• TWG on MRE meets every two months;
• TWG on VA meets every two months;
• In order to exchange information and best practices;
• All operators are required to send report of their
  activities every month to the NRA;
• All data are fed into the Database Centre of the
  NRA, and can be shared with all operators and
  stakeholders.

                   Information Management
 NRA adopted and developed IMSMA 5 (supplied by
  GICHD), which is now fully operational, with latest
  information on:
• Area clearance reports;
• Technical survey reports;
• Roving task reports;
• General survey reports;
• MRE reports; and
• Lao Victim Information System (LVIS) reports.




               Information Management
Information Management System Uniformised.
In order to facilitate data entry into its Database Centre,
the NRA has already commenced Training and
Installation of IMSMA 5 for a number of operators and is
continuing the roll out for all operators.

All data and information on Lao UXO/MA activities are
   available on the NRA website :

We welcome comments and suggestions from other
   National MA Programme abroad. Through this way, we
   would expect to facilitate, as a first step, regional
   cooperation.

           Possibility of UN Support

• Lao UXO Sector is well structured and coordinated

• NRA became operational two years ago

• NRA needs strengthened capacity building

• NRA needs UN Support in strengthening capacity to
  manage its Integrated Information System
