Information
Thank you for your enquiry concerning educational visits to ancient monuments in the care of Cadw.
• Cadw offers free education visits to school, college and university groups, home educators, adult education groups, Young Archaeologist groups, and groups from institutions offering an established medical rehabilitation/social programme. • All applications are dealt with in strict rotation. If the limit of free admission for the proposed date has been reached, the permit will, where possible, be issued for your alternative date as listed on the booking form. • Teachers are welcome to come for a free familiarization, planning, and risk assessment visit before bringing a group to the site. Staff on site will be happy to share their knowledge of the site with teachers. • Teachers and group leaders are responsible for carrying out risk assessments prior to the visit, in accordance with guidance issued by local education authorities. • Cadw provides hazard information in the ‘guidance for group/school visits leaflets’ (see ‘resources’ pages for specific sites on our website) but is unable to provide risk assessments as the risks vary with each group. • Exchange students are allowed free visits provided that they are part of an organized exchange programme. Applications should be made by the host school. • Free passes are not issued for weekends or Bank Holidays. • Many of our sites have shop facilities, which you are welcome to visit. • Toilet provision and disabled access at some sites is limited. Please check with site that facilities are adequate for your needs before booking your visit. • There is very little shelter at some sites and the ground is often uneven. Please ensure that everybody in the group brings waterproof clothing and wears appropriate footwear. • Adverse weather conditions occasionally cause sites to be closed at short notice. It is not possible to give teachers advance notice on these occasions. • Details of education resources and guidebooks are available from Cadw sites. Education resources are also available for downloading from the Cadw website: www.cadw.wales.gov.uk.
