Arkansas School Counselor Association 2006 Fundraiser

Arkansas School Counselor Association topped off this year’s Arkansas Counseling Association’s Annual
Conference with a fundraiser to benefit the T. A. I. L. S. (Therapeutic Animal Interventions Lift Spirits) Program
at Arkansas Children’s Hospital. All five regions of the state participated in a contest to raise the most quarters.
Regions were encouraged to collect quarters before the conference, with additional quarters being collected at a
special table during the conference.
Over $1300 was collected for the T. A. I. L. S. animal assisted therapy program!

Collection boxes set up at the ArSCA
booth during the annual fall ArCA
                                                                           Conference in Hot Springs.

The region collecting the most funds was the Northeast Region of the Arkansas School Counselor
Association, pulling in a whopping $660. As is common for the Northeast Region, these counselors took their
fundraising seriously. At the Bay School District, teachers paid the counselor $5 for the privilege of being able to
wear jeans to school that day. Walnut Ridge School District organized a school-wide; Kiss the Pig contest, with
students paying a quarter to have their favorite staff member kiss a local piglet. At Oak Grove, the counselor
placed jars in individual schools for staff members to contribute quarters.
                                                                                                     Jimmy Bushong

Coming in a close second with $540 was the Northwest Region of the Arkansas School Counselor
Association. Turnout for the NWArSCA’s fall conference at the University of Arkansas at Ft. Smith was
tremendous. Charlotte asked attendees to donate quarters into her silver bucket. Counselors reached into their
purses and pockets, emptying out quarters to contribute toward the animal assisted therapy program at Arkansas
Children’s Hospital.

Our thanks to all the regions contributing toward the fundraising project. Hopefully, we can do this again
next year and collect even more money for Arkansas Children’s Hospital.
