2006 RG NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

     • Stage 4, Junior and Senior Combined Difficulty & Artistry Judging Sheet.
In these divisions of competition coaches are asked to please use the new combined Difficulty and
Artistry Judging Sheet (see attachment A) that has been put out by the FIG. A copy can be found
on the GA RG website. There will be no penalty for using the old judging sheets however the SMC
would appreciate coaches using the new forms if at all possible.
Please note: All penalties published by the FIG will be enforced at this competition.

     • Stage 3 and 4
All penalties that apply to Junior and Senior divisions of competition also apply to Stage 3 and 4.
Any Difficulties not authorised under the GA ruling for these Stages will incur a 0.5 deduction on
     the Difficulty sheet.

     • All Difficulty and Artistry Sheets.
It is imperative that all judging sheets for use at the 2006 RG National Championships be received
at GA office by the 10th May 2006. Please ensure deadline is met. We have an enormous number
of sheets to deal with so your cooperation is sought to avoid a difficult situation. All Difficulty and
Artistry scores must be totalled by the coach at the bottom of each sheet.

     • Level 7-9 Artistry Sheets
All coaches are advised that at the 2006 RG National Championships for no Technical Deductions
will be taken for incorrect forms. Any errors including incorrect values, incorrect total, incorrect
symbols, more than 3.0 or more than 5.0, any imbalance of difficulties will be crossed off from the
form and will not be counted in the total score. Please be as accurate as possible in writing your
sheets and do not use it as a wish list. Only put down what your gymnast is actually performing. All
Artistry scores must be totalled by the coach at the bottom of each sheet.

We will discuss at the SPTA meeting whether the community wishes to continue with no deductions
and use of extra difficulties on this form.

     • Level 10 Difficulty Sheets
Level 10 gymnasts are required to have at least 6 difficulties from the Compulsory Body Difficulty
Group and at least one and no more than 2 of the Non Compulsory Body Movement Group written
on their form. For Hoop an even use of difficulties with no more than 2 over any other group.
Gymnasts are required to use only the difficulties that appear on the Level 10 difficulty pages that
appear in the NPM. If any of the above rules are violated a 0.5 penalty will be taken off the
Difficulty score. Any errors in addition, wrong symbols, wrong values or difficulties not attempted
(except in the case of execution problems) this will incur a 0.5 Technical Deduction which is taken
off the Final Score. All Difficulty scores must be totalled by the coach at the bottom of each sheet.

     • Level 10 Artistry Sheets

In Level 10 coaches need to observe the 50% rule re: Compulsory Difficulty Groups. If this rule is
not observed they lose 0.5 off the Basic Score. If they have incorrect addition, wrong symbol,
wrong values or boxes not attempted (except in the case of execution problems) this will incur a 0.5
Technical Deduction which is taken off the Final Score. There is no deduction for the use of extra
difficulties on this form. All Artistry scores must be totalled by the coach at the bottom of each
     sheet.

We will discuss at the SPTA meeting whether we wish to continue with the number of deductions
and whether or not we should allow the extra difficulties.

5. New Interpretations of the 2005-2008 FIG RG Code of Points

At the Commonwealth Games/Pacific Alliance competitions the following was confirmed.

     • Use of running over the ribbon pattern with rhythmic steps (not permitted). Rationale: running
over the rhythmic pattern says 3 or more so it is open ended and just by doing 7 steps does
not allow you to claim both.
     • Use of skipping in rope with rhythmic steps is the same as for ribbon. Combining cross skips
with turning skips the jury is still out. I advise to only claim one until a firm ruling is received
          from the FIG Technical Committee.
     • Dynamic moves are an entity in their own right you cannot add value except in how you throw.
For example in a leap, out of sight, no hands and how you catch. For example out of sight, on
the floor, no hands etc. You cannot add a catch in rotation to the movement as you have not
concluded the element at the end of the dynamic difficulty. If you do, the dynamic rotations are
          then null and void.
     • The only time you can claim a difficulty when apparatus is in the air is when you are using the
series of dynamic difficulties where you throw from the first difficulty of rotation, you do another
difficulty in rotation under the catch and then catch in the third difficulty in rotation. For
RG Technical Bulletin – May 2006 4

example three turning split leaps. Any other difficulty done under a throw does not have any
relationship to the apparatus e.g. three straight split leaps.
     • It has also been brought to our attention that Difficulty No.34 in Flexibilities has been
interpreted by some as being downgraded. This is not the case. It is a “C” and has been at all
times. The confusion started when you were asked to change the criteria on Page 91, 9.2.4
from a 0.1 to 0.2. This was the mistake in the criteria not the difficulty. As in everything from
the Code these criteria all start with their base mark, and in this case it is a body wave to the
floor, add to this 0.2 for the stated criteria of rising from the floor you reach a difficulty value of
C as shown in the Code.
     • Also a recent question was Pivot Difficulty No. 14 - whether or not it is held by the hand as the
picture is not a help. The answer is no. If you read the description carefully it does not
mention with help. It does mention the leg held front at the horizontal which does not refer to
the hand but to the position of the leg. See Pivot Difficulty No.6 description for reference.
