To The Parents (Deuteronomy

Proverbs 22:6; 13:24; 22:15;

Ephesians 6:4; Genesis 18:17-

19; 2 Timothy 1:5; 3:14-15)

Parental Discipline

Fathers Are Singled Out In The

Children’s Training In Ephesians

6:4 (Compare With Eph.6:1-2)

Ephesians 6:4 - And

you, fathers, do not

provoke your child-

ren to wrath, but bring them up in

the training and admonition of the

Lord.

Ephesians 6:1-2 - Children, obey

your parents in the Lord, for this is

right. "HONOR YOUR FATHER

AND MOTHER," which is the first

commandment with promise:

Favoritism: Showing Preference

Can Result In Bitterness And

Rivalry (Gen.37:3-4; James 2:1-9)

Neglect: Not Just Abuse But Fail-

ure To Give Time And Attention

Unreasonable: Demands & Pun-

ishments Frustrate & Discourage

Bring Up Training & Admonition:

Bring Them Up: Diligent Actions

& Activities Demanded Of Parents

Training: Nurture (KJ); Chasten-

ing (ASV) - Punitive Measures To

Correct Detrimental Behavior

Admonition: “Training By Word”

Through Use Of Words Which

Encourage Or Reprove (Vine’s)

In The Lord: Focus Of Upbringing

Child’s Learning Respect For And

Obedience To Authority, Including

Towards The Lord, Begins In The

Home (Prov.22:6; Eph.6:1-3)

Parents Teach Their Children

Respect For The Lord Through

The Teaching They Provided

And The Example They Set

(Rom.2:21-24; 1 Tim.4:15-16)
