JV Stats / Article: Cadets “Triumph” over Rams

Dan Donnelly / Ed Gavin

The St. Joseph‟s Cadets waited 366 days for this day to

Freshman Liaison:

Nadine & Pat Civitella

come. The New Canaan Rams were in town and after last years

weathered defeat, these Cadets would stop at nothing to avenge

Freshman Stats & Article: their loss. The Rams were ranked #2 in the state, but with St.

Kevin Scanlon

Joe‟s All State running back and linebacker Tyler Matakevich

Senior Spotlight: returning after 6 weeks of being on the injured reserve, this

Christopher Cargnel game would go down as one of the most exciting and

memorable divisional games in FCIAC history.

You heard the roar of the crowd as he jogged onto the

field. “I’m Back,” was what read on Tyler Matakevich‟s taped

wrists for all to see. The heart and soul of the Cadets football

team was anxious and ready to make his very first start of the

season. St. Joseph‟s would not be denied this victory.

1

The much anticipated match up between the St. Joseph Cadets and the New

Canaan Rams was finally here. The game was being televised by MSG Varsity as the

game of the week, or perhaps even the game of the year. A gorgeous, sunny afternoon

had fallen upon us. Hog Hill was packed with fans. You felt the energy in the air. What

a perfect day for a football game.

1st Quarter – The Cadets won the opening coin toss and elected to receive the

ball and start on offense, why not? St. Joseph‟s have been on a tear as of late putting up

96 points over the last 2 games. Senior co-Captain, Patrick Mulligan received the kick

off and returned the ball 12 yards to start the game. Junior running back Joe Burns had

the first carry, but was tackled for a loss. However, as the game progressed, Burns would

have an incredible afternoon accumulating over 130 yards of total offense. Senior and

co-Captain Joseph Della Vecchia has practically carried this team on his shoulders for the

past 5 weeks. To have all his weapons back including Matakevich was a blessing. Della

Vecchia rushed the ball for 7 yards and completed his first pass to senior wide receiver,

Jerry Kramer for 13 yards. Matakevich had his first carry of the season with a positive

gain of 2 yards. The crowd cheered seeing Tyler get back into the swing of things. Della

Vecchia completed a 10 yard pass to Mulligan, before Matakevich picked up another 4

yards. Joe completed his third pass to Kramer for 9 yards, followed by another 5 on the

ground from Ty. Della Vecchia completed a 10 yard pass to Mulligan putting the Cadets

first and goal from the 1 yard line. Well folks… everyone knew it was coming, even the

Rams. Tyler Matakevich leaped over the New Canaan defense for a 1 yard touchdown.

The St. Joseph‟s family of fans got their wish as they cheered for joy. He was back!

Senior kicker Joe DoCarmo kicked the extra point. Cadets 7 * Rams 0

Now it was time to see how New Canaan would respond. The Rams were known

to have a high scoring offense and a shut down defense, but after the Cadets first drive,

the Ram defense was searching for answers. On New Canaan‟s first carry, their running

back was met head on by senior linebackers Sean Chinova, Quinn Irwin and Matakevich

for a combined tackle. These 3 would combine on the day for 35 tackles with

Matakevich leading the way with 16, Chinova 11 and Irwin 8. Simply devastating! The

Rams would have their work cut out for them. However, New Canaan managed to put a

decent drive together picking up short gains here and there, but a mistake by the Ram

quarterback cost them. SJ safety Mulligan intercepted the ball and returned it over 80

yards for the score, but unfortunately the ball was called back on off-setting penalties

nullifying the great run. I have a funny feeling Patrick will get another shot a little later.

Senior running back LJ Hunt carried the ball for the Cadets picking up 3 yards. Della

Vecchia completed his next 2 passes, one to Burns for 10 yards and the other to Kramer

for a short gain. St. Joseph‟s came up short of the first down and were forced to punt

ending the 1st quarter.

2nd Quarter – Burns punted the ball 74 yards pinning New Canaan at their own 1

yard line. Wow! That was one heck of a boot. The Hogs were ready to go back to work.

After a few first downs the Rams seem to be on a roll. But much like their first drive,

Mulligan leaped in front of the New Canaan receiver and had his second pick of the

afternoon. He returned it 19 yards before being pulled down by a host of defenders.

2

St. Joseph‟s and New Canaan battled for the remainder of the 2nd quarter. Both

defenses played superbly with neither team allowing the other to score. The Hogs - Irwin

registered his second sack of the season, while pumping his fists in the air. The SJ

offense was ready to go, but with just under 2 minutes left. Della Vecchia completed 2

passes to Irwin for 24 yards and another to Mulligan for 4 more. The half ended with

Burns breaking loose up the middle for a 43 yard run, but the Ram defenders were able to

catch him at the 10 yard line, just shy of the end zone. Half Time: Cadets 7 * Rams 0

3rd Quarter – DoCarmo was set to kick off the second half. A team tackle by

special team‟s players - senior Steve Chille and sophomores Brian Gavin and Denzel

Moscova got the fans excited. The Hogs were back on “D” with Hunt and Matakevich

each registering 3 tackles. However, New Canaan came out a different team, more

determined, more focused. The Rams put a nice drive together finding the end zone to

even up the score. Cadets 7 * Rams 7

New Canaan made it a game, but how would St. Joseph‟s respond? The Cadets

offense took the field. Hunt carried the ball twice for 9 yards before Della Vecchia

completed 2 passes; his first to Irwin for 6 yards and his second, an energizing 62 yard

completion to Burns for a touchdown. Hog Hill and all its fans erupted with ovation. St.

Joe‟s was back on top. DoCarmo‟s extra point was good. Cadets 14 * Rams 7

After the kick off, the Hogs jumped out on defense. Senior defensive end Alexis

Guadelupe registered 2 quick tackles with Chinova and Kramer each adding an assist.

The Rams were forced to punt which gave the Cadets another opportunity to pad their

lead. The SJ offense commanded the field. Hunt had 2 spectacular carries totaling 29

yards. Della Vecchia completed a 15 yard pass to Kramer before connecting with Irwin

for an untouched 18 yard score. St. Joseph‟s was on a roll. DoCarmo kicked the extra

point. Cadets 21 * Rams 7

The Hogs were still hungry and the Rams were feeling the pressure. New Canaan

was trying to muster up anything to get them going again, but after 2 incomplete passes

and a Matakevich sack, his first of the season, the Rams had to punt the ball away again.

St. Joe‟s was not able to capitalize on offense this time around and found themselves

punting the ball away. Back came the Hogs. On the first play of the next New Canaan

series the quarterback‟s ball was tipped at the line of scrimmage and for the second time

this season, senior co-Captain Nick Adzima was in the right place at the right time to

snag the ball out of the air. Nice hands Nick! The Hogs defense and the fans were going

nuts with seconds left before the quarter ended.

4th Quarter – The final quarter had begun. The Cadets clinging to a 2 touchdown

lead. The Rams would not go away without a fight. St. Joseph‟s offense sputtered.

Their worst series of the game and again giving the ball back to New Canaan. The Rams

didn‟t waste anytime. It took them all of 6 plays to score a touchdown. The Hogs

showed signs of being tired and were a little unsettled. Cadets 21 * Rams 14

St. Joe‟s needed to put a drive together and run some clock off, but it didn‟t

happen. New Canaan‟s defense got the better of them for the second consecutive series.

3

There was less than 7 minutes remaining in the ball game and the Hogs needed to

make a stand. It was now or never. New Canaan was on the 30 yard line and needed a

drive to stay alive. Matakevich and Irwin combined for the first tackle; Chinova had a

lone tackle on the second play. Seniors Trevor Dalling and Nick Francis along with

Guadelupe were next. Senior linebacker Kevin Rooney and Kramer both dove in for

another. Rooney, I might add had 10 tackles on the day. The intensity was growing.

Senior Mike Marini had a tackle with Adzima and Guadelupe assisting. Then it was

Matakevich, then Hunt, each making a stop. The Hogs were scrapping, but the Rams

kept inching close and closer. Senior defensive back Brendan Donegan made 2 tackles,

but in the end it just wasn‟t enough. With 1.08 left in the game, the Rams scored a game

tying touchdown as the home team grew silent. Cadets 21 * Rams 21

St. Joseph‟s didn‟t panic. There was still enough time on the clock along with 2

available timeouts to make something happen. All we needed was a spark, one big play

and it was ours for the taking. Well folks, I have to say, you should have been there to

witness what happened next. On the ensuing kick off, Patrick Mulligan received the ball

at the 9 yard line. He took the ball up the middle before breaking to the sideline evading

2 New Canaan defenders. Patrick turned on the jets and raced down the left sideline. At

about the 40 yard line he made a beautiful cut back towards the middle of the field as he

raised the football high in the air. Patrick found himself alone in the end zone jumping

for joy. His teammates were soon to follow. The young man returned the ball 91 yards

for a touchdown. The Dalling Sports Complex erupted with cheers and hugs. Victory

seemed close at hand. DoCarmo came on to kick the extra point. Cadets 28 * Rams 21

Now there was 52.7 seconds remaining in the game. The game was nearly over,

or was it? As much as I would have liked to see it end on such a high note, New Canaan

had one last drive in them. With precision passing, the Rams managed to move the ball

right down the field effortlessly. The Hogs were in a prevent defense and New Canaan

picked away on short, quick passes directed towards the sidelines. The Cadets played

very timid. With 2.3 seconds remaining, the New Canaan Rams through a pass towards

SJ defensive back Jerry Kramer and scored. The Ram fans were ecstatic. Their team

managed to do the unthinkable with just seconds left in the game. However, New

Canaan was still down by 1. The head coach decided to roll the dice and go for 2 point

conversion for the win. The Rams attempted the exact same play they scored twice on,

going right after Kramer, but Jerry owed them big time. As predicted New Canaan

through a pass directed towards Kramer in the front corner of the end zone, but Jerry was

expecting it and knocked the ball away. Amazing… simply amazing! The Cadets were

ahead by 1 and all they needed to do was to receive the kick off and the game was over.

New Canaan lined up to attempt an onsides kick and they directed it right at Matakevich,

but it bounced off the co-Captain and the Rams recovered the ball. Now with still 2.3

seconds remaining in the game New Canaan tried one last time for a miracle play. After

a short pass and an attempted pitch back which was fumbled, Trevor Dalling picked up

the ball to end the game. What an incredible game!!! For all of you who witnessed it,

you‟ll most likely never see another one like it. “Let’s Go Hogs!”

The Final Score: Cadets 28* Rams 27

Connecticut Post Newspaper Article:

Matakevich returns, St. Joseph holds off New Canaan

Dave Ruden – Staff Writer

TRUMBULL -- With his team on the downside of a late-game rollercoaster ride, buoyed

by the return of its best player but in danger of seeing its playoff hopes dashed by a last-

minute letdown, St. Joseph's Jerry Kramer decided to rely on his instincts to save the day.

After New Canaan, the No. 2 team in the state, had drawn to within 28-27 on Patrick

Newton's 10-yard touchdown catch with two seconds left, Rams coach Lou Marinelli

opted to try a 2-point conversion to win the game, a strategy he had eschewed

moments earlier.

New Canaan attempted the same play on which Newton had scored, an out-pattern that

had been working seamlessly. This time the intended receiver was Cameron Armstrong,

but Kramer added his name to the roster of St. Joseph heroes on the day, reading and then

breaking up the pass to preserve a dramatic 28-27 home win.

"They ran it three times in a row and I knew it was coming," Kramer said. "I anticipated.

I wasn't going to let it happen a fourth time."

Lifted by the presence of Tyler Matakevich, who missed the first five games with a

broken bone in his right foot, the Cadets improved to 4-2 and kept alive their hopes of

trying to win a second straight state title.

"Oh, my God, this means everything," said Matakevich, who had St. Joseph's first score

but made his greatest impact on defense. "This team has a lot of heart."

The loss threatens the FCIAC playoff hopes of a New Canaan team that had outscored its

opponents by 237-21, but with an asterisk: It had compiled a 5-0 mark against teams with

a combined record of 3-22.

The Rams were held scoreless in the first half and did not gain any traction until the final

quarter. They trailed 21-7 after three quarters.

"I think we have to evaluate how come we couldn't get the kids ready," Marinelli said.

"Maybe we had it too easy in the first five games. I don't know why we were so sluggish

in the first half. A lot of it was we were playing a good team. But I thought our kids

played their hearts out."

The Rams' first test of the season featured a wild finish in which there were 20 points

scored in the final 68 seconds.

6

New Canaan quarterback Matt Milano, who completed 23 of 38 passes for 243 yards and

three scores, but was also intercepted three times, bulled in on a 1-yard sneak to lift the

Rams into their first tie since midway through the third quarter, 21-21.

Marinelli actually thought about going for a 2-point conversion before calling a timeout

and bringing in his kicking team.

The deadlock was short-lived, as Pat Mulligan, who picked off Milano twice in the first

half, answered with a spectacular, weaving 90-yard kickoff return that made the score 28-

21.

New Canaan got the ball back on its 42 with 47 seconds left and Milano coolly moved

the Rams downfield, using combinations of short passes to Kevin Macari (11 catches, 98

yards) and Newton, who had a breakout game with nine catches for 96 yards and a pair

of scores.

After Newton did a great job to get both feet down inbounds to draw the Rams within a

point, Marinelli was unhesitant in plotting his next move.

"I figured we were lucky to still be in the game in the first place," Marinelli said. "After

the kickoff return we decided to roll the dice."

St. Joseph quarterback Joe Della Vecchia completed 13 of 25 passes for 173 yards and a

pair of touchdowns, the first a beautiful 61-yard strike to Joe Burns, who finished with

123 yards rushing and receiving.

St. Joseph admitted the first lift for the game came on Wednesday morning, after

Matakevich was cleared to play. He sent his coach, Joe Della Vecchia Sr., a two-word

text message: "Game on."

"When he came out onto the field that day we got a big lift," Della Vecchia Sr. said.

"Now our goals are still intact, though we have a tough schedule ahead."

Matakevich played the entire game at linebacker and about one-third of the plays on

offense, with seven carries for 26 yards.

St. Joseph Cadets v. New Canaan Rams

NEW CANAAN TOPS JV CADETS 21-8

The previously undefeated St. Joe‟s Junior Varsity Cadets hit the road Monday to take on

the New Canaan Ram at Dunning Stadium, and were handed their first loss of the season

by a score of 21-8, moving their record to 3-1-1.

New Canaan‟s opening kickoff landed in the end zone for a touchback, giving the

Cadets the ball at their 20-yard line. With QB Pat Boyle (#6) working behind offensive

lineman Alec Lessard (#66), Brian Gavin (#67) Nick Del Bouno (#64), Rob Roehrich

(#79) and Mike Raucci (70), the Cadets called on tailback Kyron Crawford (#21) to get

things going.

Crawford was subsequently stuffed by the Ram defense on the first two plays. Facing a

third and 12, Boyle completed a wide receiver screen to Denzel Moscova (#15), who was

pummeled by a host of Ram defenders and stripped of the ball, which was recovered by

New Canaan at the Cadets 5-yard line. Only 1:20 into the game, the Rams had a first and

goal.

With their backs to the wall, the Cadet defense took the field. This unit, led by

lineman Sonny Thelusca (#85), Raucci, Roehrich, Gavin, and Dan Donnelly (#57);

linebackers Mike Pulaski (#45), Mike Grasso (#32), Conor Gebo (#47) and Matt Hare

(#34); and secondary performers EJ Sheehan (#26), Jon Prutting (#24), Ryan

Mulligan (#20), Jake Pelletier (#3), Bob Abriola (#9), Jason Kaufman (#46), Alex

Hardy (#80) and Julian Rosa (#2), has been impressive, having only given up only four

offensive touchdowns all season.

After stuffing New Canaan on first down, the Rams offense prevailed, blasting up

the middle for the game‟s first score. The conversion kick was successful, putting the

Rams in front 7-0.

Crawford handled the ensuing Rams kickoff but was pinned at the 10-yard line

by the hustling Ram‟s special teams. QB Brett Olayos (#5) came in and tried to move

the ball downfield without success. On fourth down, punting from his own end zone,

Sheehan uncorked a high spiral that was fielded by New Canaan at their own 42 yard

line. Gunners Matt Welch (#81) and Pelletier dropped the Ram returner at midfield.

11

This time the Cadet defense held, with Thelusca and Raucci providing the

pressure, forcing the Rams to turn the ball over on downs and giving the offense great

field position at the Ram 42 yard line. Boyle came back in at QB, and after two

incomplete passes, connected with Crawford for 9 yards. Facing a 4th and 1, Boyle again

went to Crawford for the first down, but the play was nullified by a Cadet holding

penalty, forcing a punt. New Canaan took over at their 35-yard line as the first quarter

ending with the Rams up 7-0.

The second quarter began with the Rams picking up a first down. On 2nd and two

from their 45, the Rams connected on a long pass down the right side-line for their

second score. The extra point was good and the Rams went up 14-0.

Once again the New Canaan kickoff found the end zone and the Cadet‟s took over

at their 20 yard line. After two failed running attempts and a short completion to Ryan

Caldwell (#4), Sheehan was again called on to punt, giving the Rams possession on their

own 45-yard line. After running a hook and ladder play that picked up 18 yards, the Rams

had the ball at the Cadets 32. On the next play, blitzing linebacker Pulaski (#45) caused

a fumble, which unfortunately the Rams recovered. On 4th and 7 from the 29, the Rams

went to the air again and scored. With 4 minutes left in the half the Rams had jumped out

to a 21-0 lead.

On the ensuing possession, the Cadets offense finally started showing some signs

of life as Sheehan scampered 40 yards, putting the Cadets deep into Ram territory.

Crawford followed with two nice runs of seven and ten yards to get the Cadets down to

the Rams 21-yard line. But the Ram defense stiffened, and held the Cadets on 4th and 5

from the 17, turning the ball over on downs. A long New Canaan completion moved the

ball into Cadet territory, but the threat ended when Moscova (#15), who had some in on

defense to help slow down the Ram‟s passing game, stepped in front of the New Canaan

receiver for the interception. The half ended with New Canaan up 21-0.

Third quarter action saw the Cadets kickoff and New Canaan take possession at

their own 30. The Rams were unable to move the ball on the swarming Cadet‟s defense,

which forced New Canaan into a 4th and 22. On the ensuing punt, the Cadets again

brought the pressure, disrupting the punt and giving the offense great field position on the

New Canaan 28-yard line. Unfortunately, the Cadets offense was unable to take

advantage and turned the ball over on downs. After the teams traded possessions, the

third quarter ended with the Rams still ahead 21-0.

The fourth quarter saw both defenses continue to control the game. With 1:15 left,

Brett Olayos (#5) marched the Hogs down the field eventually finding Moscova in the

end zone on a 35 yard pass for the Cadets lone score. Olayos then hit Pulaski on a slant

pattern for the two-point conversion, and the final margin.

FINAL SCORE: CADETS 8 - NEW CANAAN 21

SCOREBOARD October 28, 2010

St. Joe’s-14 * New Canaan-24

The Freshmen Hogs entered into the 6th game of the season looking to get back on

track after a rough showing in week 5. The younger Hogs put together their best

showing since week one against the New Canaan Rams. The freshmen squad may

have fallen short of a victory, but they showed fight, toughness and teamwork, that

surely will carry over for weeks to come.

The Freshmen Offense took the field fired up and ready to move the ball. Mike

Konecny hit a hole for 18 yards and a first down, then he bulled forward for 8 yards,

and another 5 yards for another first down. Joe Civitella and Shane Miller chipped on

the next three runs unable to convert the first down and punted the ball away. The

Hogs “D” took the field. The defense was lead by the patented “Warrior Yell” of

Joey Civitella, after each and every pounding hit. The New Canaan offense knew

after three pounding hits of the forced series, that the “Hogs” were back, and they

were in for a long day. The Rams punted the ball back to the St Joe‟s squad and

Jordan Vazzano and his “O” took the field again. The younger Hogs lead by Shane

Miller and Mike Konecny pounded the ball for 9 plays before the drive ended short of

a first down.

The Rams took the field and also took to the air. Quickly the Hogs worked their way

down the field. Joey “Civi” Civitella sacked the Ram QB on the drive, Hirschbeck,

Bulerin and Ish all had tackles in the series. The Rams over came the physical play of

the “Hogs” and punched it in for 6 points and followed it up with a 1 point

conversion.

The Hogs “O” took the field. Jordan “Vazzy” Vazzano strung together a series of well

executed plays. Netting the Hogs their first TD and a 2 point conversion. It was a 9

play series, with completions to Miller, Konecny, and Hirshbeck. Vazzano also ran on

a critical 3rd down for the first down. Shane Miller scored his first TD of the day with

Jordan Vazzano jogging in for the 2 point conversion.

Brett Scanlon squib kicked the ball to the NC Rams. The Rams return team brought

the ball up to the 50 yard line. On the first play of the drive the Rams QB complete a

35 yard pass and the Rams receiver took it to the House, stunning the St Joes “D”.

Shortly after this drive the Rams took a 13-8, 5 point lead into halftime.

14

On the first draft of the second half, the NC Rams scored again, making the score 19-

8. The St Joe‟s “O” took the field determined to take the game over. Jordan Vazzano

led the offense down field on what was the best drive of the season. This 15 play

drive ended with a with a bullet pass on the run from Vazzano, perfectly thrown to a

sliding Shane Miller in the end zone. Unfortunately, a NC Ram defender tackled

Jordan on the chase, slamming him into the turf causing Vazzano to not return for the

remainder on the game. The PAT was incomplete, but the Hogs were back in it with

the score 19-14.

The following New Canaan drive ended in three plays and a punt. Now, the Hogs get

the ball back around their own 30 yard line. Brett Scanlon entered in for the injured

Vazzano, looking to march the St Joes “O” down the field. Konecny & Civitella ran

up to the 40 yard line short of the first down. On the 3rd down play Brett Scanlon

completed a pass to Mike Konecny for the first down, yet there was a flag on the

field, and Scanlon was on his back. A late hit, roughing the quarterback, was called

resulting in an additional 15 yards. What looked like a drive that would result in a TD,

was stopped cold by the Rams with a sack, and three short runs. The Hogs turned the

ball over on downs.

The Ram offense once again had the St Joes “D‟s” number and scored in 4 plays. This

made the score 25-15. The St. Joe's “O” returned to the field. A combination of runs

and some quick passes by “Scan” moved the Hogs but they just ran out of time as

they were marching down the field.

There was some tremendous standout play by several of the younger Hogs. Jordan

Vazzano threw for 180 yards, and scored a passing TD and ran in for a PAT. Shane

Miller ran for 78 yards, Mike Konecny ran for 60, Brett Scanlon stepping in throwing

for 30 yards. Joe Civitella had a tremendous defensive game leading the team with 8

tackles 2 sacks and 7 assisted tackles. Hirschbeck had 5 tackles, Konecney, Bulerin,

Ryan, Ish, Green and Miller all had 3 tackles. Scanlon and Hashemi logged 1 a piece.

Dear Football Families,

On behalf of Head Coach Joe Della Vecchia, and Athletic Director Jim Olayos, we would

like to welcome you to another great season of SJ “hog” football. The season is young

and yet has already been so very exciting.

We would also like to take this opportunity to appeal to you to join the Athletic

Association. It is our goal to have 100% of our team parents become members.

Did you know that the SJAA participates in the development of our Athletic Programs?

Not only are new uniforms, helmets, pads, nets, awnings, transportation, State Champ

rings funded, but also are so many other programs that foster well rounded Student

Athletes.

Have you ever attended a Senior Night Festivity for any of our athletes? I urge you to

attend and bring tissues! Our SJAA celebrates the senior athletes with a ceremonious

event that includes season highlights, Dalling Field decorated with St. Joes Spirit

balloons, a ceremony that begins with each senior athlete escorted by their parents

complete with flowers and photos, athlete accolades, and college/major intentions.

The Athletic Association also has a hand in each Team‟s banquet and pizza party. After

having driven home a car full of giggly Cheerleaders following their banquet, I can

personally attest to the happy memories shared by the girls, as well as their parents.

These are the days they (and we as parents) will look back on so fondly, and these are the

days that pass so quickly.

Our Association needs your help in order to keep these, and so many other programs

going. Please join the Athletic Association, come to the meetings and get involved. We

are driven by the generosity of our members, and that is not only monetary. We welcome

donations of labor, materials, expertise, food, networking etc. We recently had donations

of extension cords and a microphone for our PA system, which parents were no longer

using and we were in need of. All generosity is welcome!!

Please join the camaraderie that is St. Joes! Help to continue to build our Athletic

program and have some fun along the way!

Thank You,

The Families of:

Joseph Della Vecchia (Sr. Captain)

Nick Adzima (Sr. Captain)

Patrick Mulligan (Sr. Captain)

Tyler Matakevich (Sr. Captain)

DONATIONS TO SJHS TOUCHDOWN CLUB

Right now, almost a billion people on the planet don’t have access to clean, safe drinking

water. That’s one in eight of us.

Charity: water is a non-profit organization bringing clean, safe drinking water to people in

developing nations. We use 100% of public donations to directly fund sustainable water

solutions in areas of greatest need. Just $20 can give one person clean water for 20 years.

Health and Sanitation

Unsafe water and lack of basic sanitation cause 80% of diseases and kill more people every year

than all forms of violence, including war. Children are especially vulnerable, as their bodies

aren't strong enough to fight diarrhea, dysentery and other illnesses.

90% of the 42,000 deaths that occur every week from unsafe water and unhygienic living

conditions are to children under five years old. Many of these diseases are preventable. The UN

predicts that one tenth of the global disease burden can be prevented simply by improving water

supply and sanitation

Bill Dwinells - HELP ME FUND WATER PROJECTS

In Bill’s Words… This is one way to honor all the hard work by the players, cheerleaders,

coaches, and trainers this season. The club will expire on 12/7/10, to give a purpose and finish

date, that is about the length of the football season.

Our family pledges to donate $1 for each touchdown scored by the team this season. If the team

averages 5 a game for the 10 game season, that would be $50 from our family, if 10 more people

donate the same amount, that would be enough to supply 25 people with a permanent supply of

fresh clean water.

We are so blessed here in our lives in many ways, I know I don't even give having water a

second thought. Thanks for taking the time to read this.
