MAJOR DEMONSTRATIONS OVER THE WEEKEND 11 am SATURDAY IAN WHITE 11 am SUNDAY LEE WILSON We are in for a treat this morning because our demonstrator is Ian White. Of course, Ian is well known to many bonsai enthusiasts but for those who are unfamiliar with his work, Ian has been involved in bonsai for over 20 years, the first 9 years in South Africa. He has many interests, including Australian and South African natives, pines and group plantings. He is also a keen collector from the wild. As well as having extensive experience demonstrating at club level, Ian has been associated with The School of Bonsai for many years and has been involved in both national and international conventions. Don’t miss Ian as not only does he have a wealth of knowledge and is a skilled technician but he is one of the most polished presenters in the bonsai fraternity. This will be a great start to the weekend. Lee is a gifted bonsai artist well known to most people within the bonsai community. His interest began in 1976 and he studied with Deborah Koreshoff between 1979 and 1980. He has been a loyal member of the Bonsai Society of Australia for over 25 years and was on the committee of the Society for most of that period and in recognition of his contributions he has been made a life member of the Society. Lee also holds the position of President of the AABC, and is the proprietor of Bonsai Artist-Tree Nursery, a specialist bonsai nursery located within the Forestway Garden Centre, Belrose. Lee is one of the mainstays of the Australian bonsai fraternity and has travelled and demonstrated extensively both interstate and internationally. As well as his innate talent and a burning passion for his work, Lee has the ability to entertain whilst passing SATURDAY AND SUNDAY PATRICK KENNEDY IN THE MARKET PLACE Pat Kennedy’s love of bonsai, was triggered by a photograph in a magazine in the mid 1950’s. In the early 1980’s Pat decided his trees deserved bonsai pots of a high standard and this put him on a road of discovery. The journey began with private pottery lessons and then a three year TAFE course followed by many years in a commercial pottery. Long hours at home experimenting with different techniques and styles of bonsai pot has paid off, with Pat now considered in world class, and he will be offering some exquisitely designed and detailed pots for sale at the show. 2 pm SATURDAY DON DELUCA 2 pm SUNDAY DON DELUCA Don began his bonsai career in 1987 and has been taught techniques by some of Australia's most competent bonsai artists including Lee Wilson, Grant Bowie, Noel Summerell and Lindsay Bebb. Don has also spent time with the internationally acclaimed master Kevin Willson of the UK. Don has run a bonsai nursery for 18 years and has specialised in field growing for 8 years. Having literally thousands of trees to work and experiment on has allowed him to learn a myriad of techniques and accumulate a vast storehouse of knowledge and thus has become a nationally recognised bonsai tutor and demonstrator. He is proficient working with all bonsai styles, both classical and contemporary, and with most varieties of plant material but he particularly likes working with Black Pine, Ash and Maples. Don is a confident stylist but most importantly he is able to make his presentations not only informative but also enjoyable because of his relaxed and amiable manner. Don, who is ranked level 2 on the Australian Associated Bonsai Clubs list of authorised demonstrators, prides himself on being able to pass on special techniques and ideas to the benefit of all enthusiasts, whether they be beginners or the most advanced practitioner. This is Don’s second demonstration of the weekend so, if you missed the first, don't miss this one, and if you saw his first, you will most likely want to come again.
