Connecting to and using the eduroam wireless network with
Windows Mobile 6.x devices
Please Note: that this wireless service does not require use of a Proxy
IMPORTANT: You will need to install a new Trusted Root Certificate on your
Windows Mobile 6 phone to use the UCLan-Wireless or eduroam wireless
networks from Thursday 8th April 2010.
Ctrl+Click on UTN-USERFirst-Hardware.cer to open the Zip file. Extract the
“UTN-USERFirst-Hardware.cer” file to your Laptop/PC Hard drive.
Copy the UTN-USERFirst-Hardware.cer file to your phone (using ActiveSync
or via a memory card etc.)
Open the File Explorer application on your phone, locate the UTN-USERFirst-
Hardware.cer file you just copied to it and click on the file.
A "Certificate Installer - One or more certificates were installed successfully"
window will appear, click "OK" to continue."
"Note that you only need to do the above once unless you reset the phone or
get a new one."
Make sure the wireless card is switched on
Go to Start, Settings, Connections tab, Comm Manager

If the wireless icon has an X against it (as shown above) then select the icon
once to switch wireless on

Close this window
Select Start, Settings, Connections tab
Select Wi-Fi
In the Configure Wireless Networks window a list of all available networks
will be displayed.

Select eduroam
In the Connects to: drop down list ensure that The Internet is selected
Select Next

In the Authentication drop down list ensure that WPA2 is selected
In the Data Encryption drop down list ensure that AES is selected
Select Next
In the EAP type: drop down list ensure that PEAP is selected
Select the Properties button

You will get a warning message, select OK to continue.
Select Finish

Enter your full UCLan Network username including the “@uclan.ac.uk” if you
are from UCLan or the part of your username/email address after the @ if
you are from another university, in the User name box
Enter your logon/email password in the Password box
Leave the Domain box blank
Select the Save password tick box to save your logon information
Select OK
