Maneuvers Guide

All airspeeds are shown as Knots/MPH

Emergency Landing/Engine Failure Power-Off Stall

Pitch for best glide 65 knots/80 mph Hold heading ±10° or up to a 20° bank turn

Select landing spot, go there and circle Clearing turn

Troubleshoot- Carb Heat On

 Carb heat on Power to 1500 RPM

 fuel selector on both Walk flaps in 10° at a time until down

 mixture full rich Slow to 59 knots/71 mph

 throttle half in Pitch for stabilized descent, call altitude

 cycle magnetos Level off at altitude until stall

 primer in and locked

Squawk 7700, Report on Freq or 121.5

Secure for landing- Power-On stall

Hold heading ±10° or up to a 20° bank turn

 fuel selector off

Clearing turn

 mixture off

Carb Heat On

 throttle idle Power to 1500 RPM

 magnetos off Slow to Rotation speed

 flaps as req’d Full Power/Carb Heat Off

 master off Pitch up 10-12 degrees, increasing until stall

 doors open Stay Coordinated

At stall, recover by pitching to horizon

Climb out at Vx

Spin Recovery – Positive rate pitch for Vy

P – power to idle Climb to original altitude

A – ailerons neutral Cruise Checklist

R – rudder opposite the spin

E – elevators forward

Pull out of resulting dive Recovery – Slow flight/Stalls

Simultaneously- pitch/full power/carb heat

off

Slow Flight Decrease flaps by 10°

Hold altitude +/- 100’ and Heading +/- 10° Pitch for Vx

Clearing turn Positive rate – decrease flaps another 10°

Carb Heat On Passing Vy – flaps up

Reduce power to approx. 1500 RPM Climb- original altitude or nearest cardinal

Walk flaps in 10° at a time altitude

Maintain altitude and heading Return to normal cruise/checklist

Approaching stall – stall horn comes on

Add power to approx. 1800-2000 RPM to

maintain altitude

Pitch for Airspeed to keep horn on

Power for Altitude

Turns no more than 20° bank

Steep Turns – Soft Field Take-Off –

Altitude ±100’, speed ±10 Flaps - 10°

Clearing turn, pick heading Roll onto runway, yoke to chest

Approx. 2100 RPM, Va or less Full power, holding nose up

45° bank, ±5°, turn 360 degrees Relax back pressure as speed increases

Add pwr/pitch passing 30° bank Rotate/liftoff at earliest airspeed

Roll out at original, pitch fwd Lower nose to stay in ground effect

45-degree bank opposite direction Approaching Vy, start positive climb

Roll out at heading and altitude Positive rate - flaps up, climb to TPA at Vy

Turns Around a Point – Soft Field Landing –

Altitude +/- 100’ Airspeed +/- 10 Same as normal approach until on final

Find a pond or oil derrick On final verify full flaps

Maneuver @ 1,000 feet AGL In flare, keep 100-200 RPM extra

Clearing Turn Land as slow/soft as possible just above stall

Approx. 2100 RPM, Va or less When main gear on, reduce pwr to idle

Enter downwind Hold nose off on ground roll, yoke to chest

Steepest bank - 45° No brakes, continue rolling

Maintain constant distance from point

Bank angle changes with groundspeed

Exit after 2 turns, back to normal cruise Short Field Take-Off –

Use ALL available runway

Flaps - 10°

S-Turns – Hold brakes, check full power

Altitude +/- 100’ Airspeed +/- 10 Slightly tail low, rotate 5 early

Find a road perpendicular to the wind Pitch for Vx, clear obstacle or 50’

Maneuver @ 1,000 feet AGL Transition to Vy, maintain until TPA

Clearing Turn Flaps up at Vy

Approx. 2100 RPM, Va or less

Approach road downwind

Steepest bank - 45° Short Field Landing –

Initial turn to left Same as normal approach until final

Bank angle changes with groundspeed Call touchdown spot on downwind

Wings parallel to road as you cross it On final verify full flaps

Turn to right Aim at a point before touchdown point

Bank angle changes with groundspeed Pitch for Vx on final, power for glide path

Wings parallel to road as you cross it Flare early because of higher sink rate

Continue along the road Power to idle before touchdown

Exit downwind, back to normal cruise “Carrier” landing, firmly on mains then nose

Simulate maximum braking
