Please ensure you use the correct postage for the size of envelope used when returning your application form, this will ensure it is received. COMPLETING THE APPLICATION FORM You will be invited to interview if you can show that you meet the requirements listed in the person specification. When you complete the application form, please give specific examples of how you meet each requirement of the person specification. For example, if one of the requirements is to demonstrate initiative, give examples, from paid or voluntary work, or from your home life, of how you have used your initiative to get things done. Even if you already work for Mencap in a different job, the people who will decide whether to invite you to interview may not know you. You will still need to complete all parts of the form. Please note that we don’t accept CVs; this is to make sure we review each candidate in the same, fair way. CRIMINAL RECORDS INFORMATION The following information is given to you in accordance with the Police Act 1997 and the requirements of the Criminal Records Bureau. As Mencap meets the requirements in respect of exempted questions under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974, if you are offered employment, you will be subject to a criminal record check (‘Disclosure’) from the Criminal Records Bureau before the appointment is confirmed. This post you are applying for is subject to a Enhanced Disclosure The Enhanced Disclosure contains details and dates of both spent and unspent convictions, as well as cautions, reprimands and final warnings held on the Police National Computer. If you are applying for a position working with children or vulnerable adults, the Enhanced Disclosure will also reveal whether you are barred from working with children or vulnerable adults by virtue of your inclusion on lists (held by the Department of Health) of those considered unsuitable to work with such people. The Enhanced Disclosure also contains non-conviction information from local police records if it is thought to be relevant to the position being applied for. Further information on Disclosure is available from www.disclosure.gov.uk. In addition, there is a Government Code of Practice available on the Disclosure of Criminal Records. If you wish to see a copy, please call the Mencap Human Resources Department on 01733 873700. If you are shortlisted for interview, you will be required to disclose any criminal record you have. Please note that Mencap welcomes applications from candidates with a variety of backgrounds. Criminal records will be reviewed and only taken into account for recruitment purposes where the conviction is considered relevant. A criminal record will not necessarily be a bar to obtaining a position with Mencap.
