     Newcomers to Europe
     sharing their Untold
     Stories –
     Digital storytelling
     using Web 2.0
To be a human
being is to have
a story to tell
  Karen Blixen
The Untold

Untold Stories is about:
   • Revealing untold stories
   • Making people with immigrant or refugee
background from across Europe share their
     stories with each other
   • Uniting citizens with the same bicultural
     background across European borders
   • Making citizens of Europe curious about other
     people’s stories
Who are we?

   • MDR Partners - Project Co-ordinator
   • Czech Republic - Cross Czech a.s.
   • Denmark - Gellerup Library
   • Germany - Agency for Education of
     Fürstenfeldbruck city

The Purpose of the Project

   • Develop a technical toolkit
   • Train staff
   • Engage a user test bed from the participating
     communities
   • Train and support different groups of
     immigrants
   • Make at least 25 stories available from each
country in a Digital Storytelling library -
     evaluate
   • Adapt the model to a wider user group
   • Spreading the outcome widely across Europe
   • Evaluate
(Digital) Storytelling is used:

      • To tell the story of a nation
      • To tell the story of a family
      • To share stories with friends
      • To present one’s past to new
        acquaintances
      • To tell one’s story to people, whom we
        have just met
Stories can also be told in order to
      • Pass time
      • Share and deal with
        unpleasant or scary
        incidents
      • To compare experiences
      • To establish common
        identity
So:

We shape the world by telling stories
      • We make sense of the past by telling
        stories about it
      • We make the future by talking about
        what we intend to do
      • Stories gives us a sense of direction
which shows us how to act
And:

We establish our identity and our solidarity
by telling about the life that we have lived
       • Individually
       • And together with
         other people

    learning
Local Historical Interest

     relation to:
     - a certain subject
     - a period of time
     - gender specific subjects
   • Pass on stories from one generation to the next
