propaganda?

•People often have hidden agendas
•Propaganda often tries to keep you
from forming your OWN opinions
Propaganda often:
• Only presents one side of the story;
leaves out important information
• Uses vague, meaningless words or
statistics
• Uses strong language, graphic images, or
other attention-getting techniques that
often EXAGGERATE or MISLEAD
• Uses irrelevant emotions or makes
illogical connections to persuade you
Questions to ask yourself about
propaganda:
• Is the main purpose to
EDUCATE/INFORM or to
ENTERTAIN/PERSUADE?
• Where is the information coming from? Is
this a biased or objective source?
• What AREN’T you being told??
• What do statistics and comparisons
REALLY mean?
Some examples:
• 100% of the people I surveyed said
that I am THE BEST teacher they
know!
• 10 people in this class passed the
test… Only 5 people in my other
class passed. You did twice as well!
• This is the best school I’ve ever
taught in!
