The Title of the Story: Ensure you have catchy title to grab interest – make it relevant to the subject and/or key
message
The Name of the Original Teller: This is important to record when the story is collected to ensure you can
seek necessary permission and acknowledge the original teller if you decide to ‘use the story’
The Name of the Listener or Understander: who is ‘recording’ the story
Landscape: set the scene in time (“last month”.....”the week after Christmas”......”after three months of
beginning” and space (suburb/city/country)
Dwelling Place: The precise location where the action occurred
Characters: The cast list, descriptive attributes, and roles in story
Challenge: The problem or task that triggered the action
Action: The sequence of events before, during, and after
The Turning Point: The moment when the something happened i.e. what significant event or change
occurred
Resolution: The ending, including the moral, lesson learned, or message
