Members All

The month of July was exciting, going to Grand Lodge Convention in Portland Oregon. Our

new Grand Lodge Exalted Ruler was installed and he is Hon. James L. Nicholson from Ohio

River Valley Lodge #231 located in Martins Ferry Ohio. His theme for this year is

“ELKS MAKE A DIFFERENCE.”

I agree we can make a difference but we nee YOU! We need more members to get involved with the fra-

ternal programs of the Lodge. The members that handle our programs need help, so considered yourself

asked!

DDGER Richard Kozak from the Groton Lodge was installed as our district deputy also out in Oregon.

Our Lodge will be having its audit on Monday September 14th and the visitation will be on Tuesday Sep-

tember 22nd and all are invited to attend.

The chicken BBQ was outstanding. Thanks to all who made this a great success!

A heartfelt “Thanks” to Gary Benard for his time and dedication to the Lodge . Gary will be stepping down

as House Committee Chairman and will become a snow bird. Also “Thanks” to his wife Carol who was a

valuable help in the kitchen. Both of you will be greatly missed. Thank You.

A new chairman has been named and it is Bill Machnicki Jr.

We are still looking for members to help in the kitchen, cooking or support help please leave your name at

the bar and someone will contact you for days you are able to assist.

I was asked to take over the Connecticut Elks Association East District Drug Awareness Chairman posi-

tion from Claire Decker from the Rockville Lodge. I have accepted this position and it will not affect my

duties as Exalted Ruler.

National Patriot week is the second week in September and on September 11th Putnam and Danielson

Lodges will be holding a joint program at Rotary Park at 7:00 P.M.

Fraternally yours

Al LaFleur

Exalted Ruler

As of this writing, we have 85 who have yet to pay their dues for the 2009-2010 Lodge year. Re-

minders are being sent out to those members. Please check your membership card to see if it

reads, DUES PAID TO APRIL 1, 2010. If not, simply remit at the Lodge or send it by mail.

Initiation of new members is slated for Tuesday September 22, 2009, which will also be our visit from

District Deputy Richard Kozek that evening. At this time, we have 3 candidates eligible for initiation.

Remember, if you would like to propose someone for membership, applications are at the members
