Dear Preschool Parents:
I am delighted to welcome those of you who are joining us for the first time this fall.
And those of you who are returning to the Pine Point family, I am looking forward to
working with you again. We have exciting plans for the year and we’re so glad that you
and your child will be part of them.
Mrs. Taylor, Mrs. Dameron, Mrs. Gillespie and I will be making home visits in August.
Those of you who were involved in the preschool last year will remember that it is short,
a half-hour visit at the most. The purpose is to make the transition to school and easy one
for you and your child. We have found that time spent getting to know your child before
school starts is time well spent. The visit provides parents an opportunity to meet the
teachers, ask questions and share information that the teachers might need to know about
your child to make the home/school transition successful. One of the teachers will call to
schedule the time for a home visit. Even if your child was a Teddy Bear last year, we
offer the opportunity for another visit to start the Dinosaur year.
The first day of School is Tuesday, September 8, 2009. Parents will stay and spend this
shortened morning with their child. School, this one day, will begin at 8:30 am and finish
at 10:00 am for just the Preschool.
Regular Preschool hours are from 8:30 am – 12:30 pm for half-day students and from
8:30 am to 2:45 pm for those staying all day. If plans differ from the usual routine
(someone else is picking up your child, an appointment, etc.) please write the change in
the black and white notebook even if you have told a teacher. Preschool traffic and
parking will be to the east of the building as well as through the pull-through area in the
front of the Preschool. Dismissal will be from the pull-through are in front of the
Preschool. Please contact the After-School Programs Director for details concerning
Extended Day program.
Each child will need to bring daily:
• A soft-sided lunchbox with child’s name written on it.
• A health snack and lunch (2 snacks if the child stays all day). Milk may be
purchased by semester. We have the opportunity to purchase lunch from Ocean
Blue Caterers as specified by their flier. Snacks should be sent in the child’s
lunchbox if they are having box lunch.
• We have the same pizza day as the rest of the school.
• An over the shoulder backpack or tote bag with the child’s name written clearly
on it (writing may be inside). Please no roll-around backpacks to save space.
Items to be brought to school and left all year:
• A complete change of clothes, including underwear and socks, clearly labeled
with your child’s name.
• A pair of sneakers to be used for PE class only.
If your child stays all day, they will need a SMALL blanket and pillow (not bed size as
they don’t store well) for rest.
We are requesting that children wear sneakers, tie shoes or boots to school. Sandals
aren’t safe for preschool activities. We are NOT included in the school dress code,
however children should be dressed in clean, comfortable clothing that can be easily
washed and warn.
My job next year involves working with parents as I did this year. This means that the
partnership we are forming now will be helpful to all of us all year long. I want and
need to know your concerns so that I can answer your questions. I will be teaching in the
classroom but will then be available by e-mail, phone, or in person during afternoons.
This is a perfect opportunity for us to get together to talk about parenting issues, school
adjustments, and related topics. If you have a classroom question it is best to go to the
teacher first. If you want to go further with the discussion, please do not hesitate to call
Thanks for your help. If you have questions that need answering before the home visit,
please call me at 535-0606 ext. 152 or e-mail email@example.com. I will be in and
out all summer.
We are looking forward to the best year yet at Pine Point Preschool.
