ISA News & Views Advertising Expansion
TO: Image and Membership Development Committee
FR: Fred Gebarowski
Background
At it’s June 2001 meeting the ISA Executive Committee agreed on the guideline that ISA News
& Views have no more than 20% advertising and that only classified ads or ads from privilege
providers be allowed in the newspaper. Recently the Executive Committee agreed that any
change in these guidelines be decided by the Image and Membership Development Committee.
Proposal
This is a proposal to change the ISA News & Views editorial-to-advertising ratio from 80/20 to
75/25 to accommodate a new advertising section called the Service Directory. The purpose of
this change is two-fold: enhance member access to valuable vendor services; generate additional
revenue to help offset the cost of producing News & Views. In this one-page directory,
companies can describe their services and also include their company logo. It is anticipated that
many of these listings would be the same as those found in the Services section of the ISA
Directory.
This is a less expensive advertising alternative for small- to mid-sized companies that don’t have
the resources to purchase a large exhibit space at a show or buy a fractional ad in InTech. This
section will also add value to the Members’ use of ISA News & Views as support for their
professional business needs.
Services will be from several categories, such as:
Calibration Specialists
Consultants
Contract Manufacturer/Fabricator
Contractors
Custom Computers and Software
Equipment Repair
Export Sales
Installation/ Start-up/ Refurbish
Machinery Conditioning Monitoring
Market Researchers
Product Certification, Evaluation, & Testing
Product Development
Remanufactured Equipment
Safety Services
Systems Houses/Integrators
Training
This proposed 5% increase in advertising space is necessary to continue accommodating at least
2-4 ¼ page house ads per month, as well as any classified ads and privilege provider display ads
ISA News & Views may have. The house ads are an effective and inexpensive way for ISA
Departments to promote their products to ISA Members.
All ISA News & Views advertising content will equal no more than 25% of advertising leaving
75% editorial content (only 25% editorial is needed to be rated as a supplement to InTech
magazine).
The annual projected revenue from this new Service Directory is estimated at $39,440 and is
already included in the 2003 budget draft.
