           Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk
                               Students for Strides
              Team Panthers – Swatara Middle School
Why? Students for Strides will raise money while creating an awareness and educating a
younger population about cancer. Students will know that they can turn to the American
Cancer Society for answers about ALL cancers, and for support when they or a loved one are
affected by cancer. We will be walking with other students from all the Central Dauphin middle
schools. This is a great way to support and serve our community.

(National Junior Honor Society members can receive volunteer hours for attending the walk.)

Who? Members of National Junior Honor Society, teachers, other CDSD students, parents,
siblings *(Everyone who is walking must register online, including siblings.)

When? Saturday, October 15, 8:00 – 11:30 am (rain or shine)

Where? City Island, Harrisburg

How will I get there? Meet at the school to ride a school bus

How do walkers sign up?      When do I sign up? NOW!
      1) Go to

       2) Find an event: search by zip code 17113

       3) Select “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer of Harrisburg, PA”

       4) Click on “Sign Up”

       5) Click on “Join a Team”

       6) Enter our team name “Team Panthers – Swatara”

       7) Select “Join” and follow the sign up directions

Please register by September 30, 2011 so your free Team Panthers t-shirt is ordered.
I am registered, now what? START FUNDRAISING!

How can my friends and family donate?

1) On line – have them go to the website and click on “Donate.” Have them enter
your name and then click on it. Then click “donate.”

2) Checks can be made payable to “American Cancer Society/Making Strides” and we do accept
cash. Checks or cash will be collected at school Tuesday, October 11 thru Friday, October 14.

How much do I have to fundraise?

All participants must do fundraising or make a donation to participate.

I do not want to tell you how much to raise. I suggest you ask 10 people for $10. If you raise $100
or more you will receive an official “Strides” t-shirt from the American Cancer Society, and you
may qualify for other incentives from ASC. All members of our team who register in time will
receive our team shirt to wear the day of the walk.

Where does the money go?

Funds raised through Making Strides Against Breast Cancer support breast cancer research,
education, advocacy, patient services, and Community Partnership Grants.

Question: When is the walk?
Answer: Saturday, October 15

Question: How will I get there?
Answer: A school bus will pick you up in front of our building and bring you back after the walk.
We will meet at SMS at 8:00 AM and return at 11:30 AM. (transportation location may change
due to enrollment)

Question: What if my family wants to drive instead?
Answer: Meet us at the bottom of the stairs in the parking lot at City Island at 9 AM.

Question: How do I get a t-shirt?
Answer: Each walker who raises $100 or more will receive one from the American Cancer

Question: When can I begin fund raising?
Answer: NOW!

Question: How do I get my incentive prize if I earn one?
Answer: Those who earn an incentive prize will be notified after the event with details of how
to claim their prize.

Question: I have money, where do I get an envelope?
Answer: See Mrs. Kurtz in room 156 if you have cash or check donations to hand in.

*** Tip: easy way to earn the $100 dollars is to ask ten people you know that would donate
$10. The $100 dollars can be raised very quickly!!***
