Please join us in prayer for His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
At the end of a talk someone from the audience asked the Dalai Lama, "Why
didn't you fight back against the Chinese?" The Dalai Lama looked down,
swung his feet just a bit, then looked back up at us and said with a gentle
smile, "Well, war is obsolete, you know." Then, after a few moments, his
face grave, he said, "Of course, the mind can rationalize fighting back...
but the heart, the heart would never understand. Then you would be divided
in yourself, the heart and the mind, and the war would be inside you."
At a dinner with the Dalai Lama that a friend of mine was invited to,
someone asked him, "When do you think Tibet will be free?" His response
brought tears to my friend's eyes. "Tibet will be free", said this beautiful
man of compassion, "when China is free!"
For me, along with Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King, the Dalai Lama is
a symbol of our true humanity, and a beacon of unified light in a world torn
apart. I was just forwarded a message indicating that he is ill, and his
fellow monks are requesting prayers for his speedy recovery.
It was reported on CNN last evening, as well in the local papers, that the
Dalai Lama has been found to have a lump in his stomach. He has complained
of abdominal pain and exhaustion for several weeks.
Please join us in prayer for the Dalai Lama.
Below is a request from his fellow monks:
A week ago I received a news release from "Tibet World News". A
friend forwards it to me from time to time. In it there was notice that
His Holiness the Dalai Lama was not feeling well and had been detained in
Patna unable to fulfill the scheduled Kalachakra Initiations and teachings.
The last Kalachakra in Boudgaya saw up to one million devotees in
attendance. We imagine this year it would be much greater as we personally
know of many Tibetans who are leaving Tibet, braving unbelievable
difficult conditions in order to attend this event.
Yesterday I received notice that His Holiness was still ill and
that the Nechung Oracle was consulted. This is serious business, the
Office of His Holiness does not consult the oracle lightly. He seemed to think
that the situation was serious enough to make a world wide appeal for an
accumulation of Green Tara's mantra: OM TARE TUTARE TURE SOHA
