7th and 8th Grade Supply List
For Use at School
Notebooks A binder, preferably a zip up binder with built in pen/pencil bag, or two smaller binders, one for math/science and one for humanities/Spanish A one inch or ½ inch binder for math/science and humanities to store completed/graded work in the classroom Meade composition books (4) 7 ½” X 9 ¾” (or similar – 3 holed & bound) The school will provide a daily planner. All middle school students will be required to use the school-provided planner, so please don’t purchase a separate planner! We will be doing training with the kids on how to utilize a planner effectively. The school will provide all required textbooks and resource materials for classroom use. To avoid excessive weight in backpacks, we will generally make copies of material we are currently working on and keep textbooks in the classroom. Supplies for school 2-3 mechanical pencils 12 blue or black ball point pens Set of four fine point white board markers – these are used for writing on lap sized whiteboards 4-6 erasers Colored pens/pencils and an accent marker Pencil/pen storage case. A soft, sturdy bag or box with a zipper is best. Backpack for transporting materials to/from the school. 3 hole lined paper and 3 holed graph paper – large size squares are better for most students Reusable water bottle — please make sure that the bottle has a pop-up style spout for easy access and spill avoidance. Please send a bottle intended for refilling. Optional but handy – scissors, white out, tape, glue sticks, post-its, mini-stapler Tools USB Memory stick, preferably one that can be attached to keys or something larger that the student won’t lose. Protractor Ruler with both metric and English system (inch/foot) measures. I suggest a metal or wooden ruler or a soft plastic ruler. Hard plastic rulers break easily. OfficeMax sells a ruler for under $2 that has a groove for quickly and accurately drawing straight lines very handy for algebra. Compass (make sure that compass has a mechanism to lock the compass so that it can easily be kept open at the same radius—the best compass has a wheel in the center that is used to move the arms in and out). Texas Instruments graphing calculator model TI-83 or TI-84. Do not purchase any other model – only these models will work with the programs and the textbook we use. Please bring in the proof of purchase from the calculator to school if you can – we can use them to get free science equipment from TI if we collect a sufficient number. School can loan a calculator to a student if cost is an issue – just let Doug know. Clean sock or white board eraser (socks make great erasers for white boards)

If student only has access to computers while at school, please let us know at the August conference. Most 7th and 8th grade middle school writing assignments must be typed and printed out for submission. Students without access to a computer can arrange to check out school laptops overnight. Email access If your family should encounter any difficulty in meeting the financial requirements of purchasing supplies, please contact Middle School Head, Josée Mayette (x319). Some items show up in both the “at school” and “at home” list. For these, please provide student with materials to keep at both locations. We have found that when students take tools and supplies back and forth, they tend to end up in the wrong place! Also, now that most classes and all student lockers will be on the 3rd floor of St. Joseph’s Hall, we encourage students to pack light!
