Our Listening and Fluency Classes are for students experiencing extreme difficulty in everyday
communication.
Listening Course
This short course is intended to help you when you first arrive in London, if you find that you can’t take part
in native speaker conversations. It will help you cope with fast speech - in particular, features of connected
speech which make it difficult for you to identify individual words. In each class we give advice and practice,
and suggest exercises which will help you to improve your listening skills.
Fluency Course
If you are finding it difficult to communicate because you can't think in English, you should attend our
Fluency course. We run short courses throughout the year, 5 sessions of one hour each. This is a low level
speaking class intended for college members who have not previously used English for their work or
studies. We recommend that you take this course and improve your fluency before you enrol for a
pronunciation class.
Pronunciation Courses
If you can already speak fluently but find that people don't understand your accent, you should attend our
Initial Pronunciation Course. All college students, researchers and academics can take this course. There
are 4 lessons covering the important points of English Pronunciation, after which we will assess your
pronunciation and advise you about further study if appropriate.
Further study is suggested for those who need to improve their spoken accuracy. Continuing
Pronunciation Classes are available from October to June in language specific groups, where people from
a similar language background will work on the particular sounds and features of speech that cause them
difficulty.
