Parks - General Survey 2007 16th April 2008 1 1.1 Introduction This brief report highlights the results of the sports and leisure questions (Appendix 1) within the BVPI General Survey. Methodology The General Survey was sent out to 2,000 households and had a 55% return of 1,100 responses. BV119e. Parks and open spaces Respondents were asked to ‘Please indicate how satisfied or dissatisfied you are with parks and open spaces. Overall satisfaction with parks and open spaces was 75.5%. 2 2.1 3 3.1 3.2 3.3 Comparisons. When comparing to other Councils North Devon has increased it’s ranking from 144th to 75th, which is now in the 2nd quartile of all districts. The under 35s were also the most dissatisfied, 25%. Non Users 44% 43% 14% Users 80% 8% 12% 0% 20% 40% 60% 80% 100% Satisfied Neither Dissatisfied 3.8 There was no particular area pattern with regards to satisfaction with parks and open spaces, and any differences were more likely to be between how satisfaction levels were split between ‘very’ and ‘fairly satisfied’ rather than overall satisfaction. 4 4.1 Have things improved or worsened? People were asked whether they felt Parks and open spaces had got better, stayed the same or got worse over the last 3 years. Just over two -thirds of the respondents thought that the service had ‘stayed the same’ (68%), with 20% thinking that parks and open services had improved and 12% thinking they had worsened. There has been an 8% increase in the proportion of those saying parks had improved (12% to 20%), with an 8% reduction in those saying that they had stayed the same (74% to 68%). This places the Council in the 2nd quartile in the Country and increased its ranking from 84th to 63rd.
