REQUEST FOR INFORMATION UNDER THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT
2000
Information Requested: would be grateful if you could provide me with the following
information:
1. Budget allocated in the tax year 2010-11 to social media campaigns or
engagement including budget for maintenance of social media profiles on
Facebook, Twitter and similar and budget allocated to specific campaigns on such
platforms.
2. If applicable and known, budget allocated during tax year 2011-12 for the same
activities.
3. The number of web domains owned by Transport for Greater Manchester
4. Budget allocated to website maintenance, support, hosting and other
associated website costs.
I refer to your e-mailed request for information detailed above and can confirm
that TfGM is able to supply you with the information you have requested and
shall address each one in turn below:
1. & 2. - TfGM does not hold a specific budget allocation for social media. We do
pay for an advertised presence on Facebook but this is part of our overall
marketing/advertising spend which includes things such as appropriate
advertisements/paid-for space/airtime in newspapers, magazines radio.
3. The number of web domains owned by Transport for Greater Manchester is
166 (including 89 registered to cover possible names prior to decision on the
name of TfGM). These figures do not include domains or hosting owned or paid

for by FAS (previously Transportation Unit) or sites funded by EU projects (where
we have paid for the domain registration).
4. The TfGM Communications Team are responsible for managing content on the
website as part of its role. Typically, this work would involve writing and updating
material as part of the day job. The cost of hosting tfgm.com is £18,000p.a.
Sundry other sites are approximately £5,000p.a. However this varies as sites are
commissioned/decommissioned.
If you are not satisfied with the response in this letter you may ask for an internal
review. If you would like an internal review you should contact me in the first

If you remain dissatisfied after an internal review has been undertaken, you have
a right to apply to the Information Commissioner for a decision. The Information
