TITLE:                           PR Manager

RESPONSIBLE TO:                  MARKETING & COMMUNICATIONS MANAGER

HOURS OF WORK:                   35 hours per week + occasional weekend and late
                                 evenings


1.    PURPOSE OF THE JOB

1.1   To work alongside the Marketing & Communications Manager in establishing and
      delivering the PR and Communications strategy for Kumon Educational UK.

1.2   To assist in the development and implementation of an effective and successful PR
      strategy and to secure regular PR coverage in the national press

1.3   To support the core business objectives and help build objectives and the
      company’s reputation internally and externally.

1.4   To provide communications support (including proof reading support) to Associates
      within Kumon Educational UK.

1.5   To assist the Marketing & Communications team in a range of marketing and
      communications functions including but not limited to: writing press releases,
      editorials and educational pieces; proof reading for all teams within Kumon
      Educational UK; attending events; providing support and guidance on
      communication related issues to all Kumon Educational Associates; tracking press
      coverage and implementing the annual PR plan.

2.    LINE MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES

2.1   None at present, but this may be reviewed in the future

3.    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

3.1   To have direct responsibility for developing and implementing the PR strategy for
      Kumon Educational UK.

3.2   To initiate PR campaigns that raise awareness of the brand, increase student
      enrolments and new centre enquiries.

3.3   To compile and send out regular press release/media alerts and to be successful in
      achieving at least 50% take up by the media - as agreed by your line manager.

3.4   To develop and maintain good working relations with the media including local and
      national newspapers, magazines radio and television.
3.5    To organise and deliver PR training for Associates of Kumon Educational UK and
       provide communication guidance (i.e. guidance on writing press releases, editorials,
       liaising with the media)

3.6    To proactively be involved, in accordance with laid down procedures, in any crisis
       management issues where and when appropriate.

3.7    To take responsibility for the PR section of the Public and internal website.

3.8    To working alongside the Marketing team to develop and execute appropriate
       partnership and key public affairs.

3.9    To proof-read company wide material, making stylistic, structural, factual, and
       grammatical corrections.

3.10   To track, review, collate and distribute press coverage and educational related
       news to the wider team in a timely way.

3.11   To organise, attend and participate in exhibitions, marketing/media and Kumon
       related visits including but not limited to Kumon Centre visits, interviews and events
       as required, which may include some evenings and or weekends as well as driving
       company vehicles.

3.12   To liaise closely with the media and to be the central point of contact for Kumon
       Educational UK (i.e. to establish oneself as the ‘public face’ of Kumon - to attend
       media events and speak publicly on Kumon related matters as well as field all
       media related calls/queries) as and when required

3.13   To research, write and request copy to be written that is relevant to our core
       business. To ensure that copy is accurate, to brief and meets the needs of the
       target audience and where relevant positively reflects and promotes the Kumon
       brand.

3.14   To   ensure    consistency   of   message     is   maintained    across   the   board.

3.15   To manage the production of printed communication material (press releases,
       editorials, brochures/magazines, conference material etc).

3.16   To effectively contribute to the Marketing and Communications team and to other
       teams within Kumon Educational UK.

3.17   To ensure effective communications within the Marketing and Communications
       team and to ensure associates are kept informed about matters that are relevant to
       their work and Kumon Educational UK.

3.18   To keep up to date with current educational issues and public opinion and to
       communicate findings to the wider team. Where appropriate to act upon the
       information.

3.19   To carry out research on our target audiences perception of the organisation.
3.20     To proactively and consistently provide relevant and timely information to the
         Marketing and Communications Manager and other relevant management
         members as and when required.

3.21     To engage and contribute to effective and suitable methods of daily, weekly,
         monthly communication sessions with team members and other Associates when
         required or as directed by your line manager.

3.22     To positively and proactively maintain and promote the ethos of the Kumon Vision
         and communicate relative information and details of developments occurring in the
         global Kumon community, to the team and other Associates when required.

3.23     To maintain open effective channels of communications (where and when
         appropriate) with all service users including but not limited to Instructors, students,
         parent and colleagues.

3.24     To regularly keep the Marketing and Communications Manager (or other relevant
         management members where appropriate and in a timely manner) of any concerns,
         issues and or developments within the remit of your activities.

3.25     To work and liaise closely with other Associates within the same and other teams to
         develop effective systems and good practice.

3.26     To be assigned and work on projects (which may or may not outside remit of role)
         as and when required.

3.27     To be proactive and committed to an ongoing programme of professional self-
         development.

3.28     To produce, monitor and review accurate records including statistical information as
         and when required.

3.29     To attend supervision, training and meetings as and when required. There may be a
         necessity for these to be outside of normal working times and at weekends.

3.30     To work with, abide with and positively promote all KEUK’s policies and/or
         procedures and management decisions.

3.31     To carry out all reasonable duties as and when requested by your line manager or
         any other senior management member.
