Service Learning Day,PATH

Dear PATH,
I would like to apologize for any inconvenience we may have caused you or for the immaturity
of some of my fellow classmates. It was a short but memorable experience for me and my peers. I
learned a lot in the limited time we were there, such as viewing how a life can succumb to the unfair will
of society. It pained me to see how many people in numerous situations could end up in the same place.
How veterans of the US military could be allowed to be homeless when they offered their lives to this
country. PTSD, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, is a very serious mind illness that is not even addressed
to former American soldiers. Then others who just couldn’t handle this American life style of working,
Americans living in the gutters is not a way of life that should be lived or allowed. Where is the
government that should always be there to protect its citizens? The social contract, a law written in the
constitution that requires for the people to serve the government as long as the government protects its
people, when broken allows the people to replace government. We should have a government that
defends its people, instead have one that doesn’t care whether or not we live or die. But back to the
issue at hand, Path was an organization that shows that there are those who put the needs of others
before their own, we call them human. People, who take the time to take care of the wash outs, the
undesirables, and the forgotten. The Homeless don’t even feel human sometimes, just because they
don’t have the resources to have a place to sleep, shower, and eat. Path gives them this reassurance
that they are still human and are still worthy enough to live a normal life. It made me feel proud to help
out my fellow man, even if it was only making the lunch, I will know that I helped them keep going on.
