purpose: People credited with this unit standard are able to describe

methods of, and set up equipment for, rand laying; and lay

rands by machine and hand to industry specified

performance and company quality standards.



entry information: Open.



accreditation option: Evaluation of documentation and visit by NZQA and

industry.



moderation option: A centrally established and directed national moderation

system has been set up by the Apparel and Textile Industry

Training Organisation.



special notes: Specified industry performance is 55% BSI performance or

equivalent. BSI performance is the British Standards

Institute internationally recognised performance system

(BS3138) where 100% is the standard expected from a

competent fully qualified performer using the correct

methods and taking the allowed rest, working briskly, and as

though on an incentive. Other comparable rating or

performance systems such as the 60/80 system are

acceptable, with the appropriate performance adjustment.



Company safety requirements conform to the Health and

Safety in Employment Act 1992.

1.1 Methods of rand laying are described.



Range: hand, machine.



1.2 Machine parts are identified and described in terms of function and operation.



Range: roller, profile die, heater, treadle.



1.3 Selected profile roller matches product specification and work ticket

requirements.



1.4 Machine is set up, tested, and adjusted to product specification and work ticket

requirements.



Range: heat, pressure.

2.1 Work is completed to specified industry performance standard.



2.2 Work is completed to company quality standards and product specification.



2.3 Documentation is completed to company requirements and practice.



2.4 Work practices meet company safety requirements.



2.5 Soles are removed from machine and packed according to company

requirements and practice.
