BRISTOL 2011
By Seth Nobes
In The Sikh Gurdwara
• When we first arrived in Bristol we went
to a Sikh Gurdwara. As soon as we got in
we went into a room where we took our
shoes off and covered our hair with a
rumal.
The Ten Gurus
• We then went into the langar where a man told us about the
ten Gurus. The ten Gurus taught Sikhism to the world. The
first Guru was called Guru Nanak. Before he died he passed
the Guru job to Guru Angad Sahib. The last Guru, Guru Gobind
Singh didn’t think anyone was worthy of becoming the
eleventh Guru, so he wrote all of the Guru teaching in The
Sikh Holy Book.
The Guru Granth Sahib
• We then went upstairs to see the Guru Granth
Sahib (The Sikh Holy Book). The man told us
about the book and why we couldn’t sit with
the girls. We then saw the book’s bedroom
and the priest read sung some of the book to
us.
Sikh vs. Moguls
• He then told us about the war between the Sikhs and the
Moguls (The Muslims). The Sikhs won the war and drove
the Moguls out of India. To surprise you only 2% of India
is now Sikhs. We then went downstairs, had a snack
(which the kind Priest’s wife gave us) and headed off to
the Clifton Suspension Bridge.
The Clifton Suspension Bridge
• When we arrived we were greeted
by a man working at the toll booth.
He welcomed us and told us a few
facts about the bridge.
Crossing the Bridge
While crossing the bridge,
the man who was showing
us the bridge showed us
how the bridge wobbled. It
was freaky!
At the other end
• At the other end of the bridge the man who
showed us across told us two stories. One was
about a women who had a row with her
boyfriend and jumped off the bridge and
survived because of her dress and the other
one was the same , but two twins were was
throw off by their horrible Uncle.
A Victorian Classroom
• After lunch we went to the Blade museum for
a Victorian workshop. During the workshop
we were treated like Victorian school children.
The boys had to wear Eton collars and the
Girls wore a mop cap and an apron. It was well
funny!
Park and the way home
• We then went to the park nearby. I went
down the slide about five times and it was
awesome! We then went to the coach and
went home.
