Heard this wonderful tribute ( CD courtesy a dear friend )

The first reaction was WOW....2 was because of her
introduction in the inlay and second because of the different kind of
tribute in a sweet voice ( album by a lady to Kishore Kumar )

Sromona recognizes her shortfalls and so does not force the extra
expressions that Kishore gives in the songs (the prolongations of words
and lines )...she keeps them short and sweet. She rarely goes out of
sur which is a very big plus point of the album. A few pronunciation
defects are overlooked by me ;)

Every song chosen is a gem and she does full justice to it. She brings
in the right emotions and definitely has succeeded in paying a good
tribute to Kishore.

The music arrangement is quite good and done by Rocket Mondal...a
regular arranger of the Ganguly's−GuhaThakurta's. Panchamda's music in
particular, is not tampered much and the original flavour is intact
:−). A slight modern beats/touch is given which is quite

The introduction of Sromona in the inlay gives a very refreshing view
to the subject that is so close to my heart "Ganguly & Guha−Thakurta's
relations". It throws light on how matured Kishore and Rumaji and their
entire family is. The fact that Kishore remembered Ruma till the end of
his life and they were in talking terms right through and Leena still
keeps in touch with Ruma, speaks volumes. The way Sromona explains that
it does not matter to her that they were not married ( Kishore−Ruma),
leaves one wondering how open minded they all are. Kishore used to
treat her like a friend and took her in open arms once again proves how
pure and kind he was at heart. It reminded me of one more interview of
Preeti Ganguly, from Nov 1987 Filmfare issue where Preeti writes about
Kishore's relations with the family−kids.

Nice hand sketch of Kishore on the cover makes it a grab...also first
time could see Sromona ( her clear photo is there on thje album )

Good job done TIMES MUSIC − keep it up.

Overall a good buy.

PS − pardon my pointing towards Kishore Kumar as "Kishore" and not
Kishore "da", or Kishore "ji" and similarly to all the elder people
mentioned in this is unintentional and did not write to show
disrespect )

A Unique compilation of songs. Recreating the nostalgia of a musical
era gone by. Rendered by refreshingly new voices. Our special tribute
to the great artiste.

Sromona is the daughter of Smt. Ruma Guha Thakurta, the founder of
"Calcutta Youth Choir". She grew up hearing the songs of Kishore Kumar
from her mother and Amit Kumar, Kishore Kumar's son. Today, Sromona is
a singer in her own right and the main member of the "Calcutta Youth

Sromona on 'Bapi' Kishore Kumar

"I used to call him Bapi. It didn't matter that he was no longer
married to my mother, Ruma Guha Thakurta. I treated him like a friend,
someone with whom I could share my joys and sorrows, who waited for me
with open arms whenever I turned to him, even though his success gave
him very little opportunity for leisure.

He listened patiently to my music and no matter how trying he found
it...and I'm sure my youthful enthusiasm must have been trying at
times...he always had an encouraging word or suggestion. I owe a great
deal of inspiration to him and I hope he is listening when I sing,
because every song has something of what he taught me. If I have
managed to make this compact disc a work worth remembering, it is
because of Bapi."
