Under general supervision, is responsible for performing public contact work operating
a van or bus to transport passengers. Exercises no supervision.
This position is a "grant funded" position and has no disciplinary appeal rights to the Municipal
Civil Service Commission. This position is likewise subject at-will employment status, and can
be terminated at any time for any reason.
Essential Job Functions:
Drives a passenger van or bus to transport Senior Services participants to and
from senior centers, health related appointments, and special events and
meetings; delivers home-delivered meals and picks up supplies as required.
Assists passengers who require physical assistance in boarding and exiting
vehicles and exhibits friendly and courteous demeanor.
May assist passengers with packages to the front door of their residence.
Maintains accurate mileage records, number of trips, number of passengers,
type of services and dates.
Reports accidents and incidents immediately to appropriate person(s).
Responsible for maintenance and cleanliness of vehicle.
May assist with other duties assigned at a senior center.
Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations; decrease turnaround
times; streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide
quality seamless customer services.
Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.
Job Requirements:
Ability to read and write, and to interpret and follow verbal and written
instructions.
One (1) year of experience driving a passenger bus or van.
This position requires a Valid Class 'B' Texas Commercial Driver's License
(CDL) or higher with a Passenger (P) endorsement. or obtain a valid Class “B”
CDL Tor higher with a Passenger (P) endorsement within thirty (30) days after
becoming a resident of the State of Texas.
Any applicant selected for this position must have a background check
completed with results satisfactory to the City of San Antonio and successfully
complete the City of San Antonio’s two-phased Cash-Handling Certification
Training.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience in transporting elderly and mobility impaired persons.
Familiar with City streets.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Physical requirements include occasional lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of safe vehicle operating and maintenance procedures.
Knowledge of proper lifting techniques.
Knowledge of safe work practices.
Skill in operating a two-way radio.
Skill in operating a vehicle safely in all types of traffic conditions.
Ability to learn City streets and County roads.
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City staff
and the general public.
Ability to provide assistance to and escort passengers.
Ability to perform all the physical requirements of the position.
