Shake, rattle & roll: $244M Mega Millions; $101M Powerball

ATLANTA – Both Mega Millions and Powerball are taking off at record speed with strong jackpots

anticipated for Tuesday and Wednesday’s drawings.

Mega Millions is bursting at the seams with an estimated $244 million jackpot to a single annuity winner for

Tuesday’s drawing. Powerball has reached a dramatic turning point with its jackpot at $101 million for

Wednesday’s drawing.

Tickets per play for both games are $1 with an additional $1 for the Mega Millions Megaplier and Power

Play multiplier options.

Georgia has seen 12 jackpot winners since Mega Millions sales began in 2002. Since last year, more than

$1.95 billion in total prizes were awarded to winners in supporting jurisdictions nationwide.

Any lucky Mega Millions player who matches all five white ball numbers, along with the Mega Ball number,

could win approximately $9.3 million a year for 26 years with the annuity option. Or a player could select

the cash option and win a single payment worth approximately $155 million.

More than $2.57 billion in total prizes has been awarded to Powerball-playing jurisdictions nationwide.

Since joining Powerball last January, one lucky Georgia winner won a $118 million jackpot prize.

Powerball offers two payment options: the jackpot prize paid over 29 years in 30 graduated payments or the

cash option, which is approximately $51 million.

Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $12.3 billion to the state of Georgia for

education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs, including Georgia’s

HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia’s Pre-K Program. More than 1.3 million students have received

HOPE, and more than 1.1 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten

program.
