C² Nets 3 International Davey Awards
Washington, DC – November 7, 2011 — The winners of the 2011 Davey Awards were announced today
by the International Academy of the Visual Arts. With nearly 4,000 entries from across the U.S. and
around the world, the Davey Awards honor the finest creative work from the best small firms, agencies,
and companies worldwide.
In receiving two silver awards in the Interactive Multimedia Training category and one in Mobile
Applications, C² Technologies, Inc. (C²) showed once again that it is at the forefront of technology-
driven education.
The U.S. Army’s Patriot Missile Crew Mobile Application, created by C², added a Silver Davey Award to its
collection. The App was designed to provide comprehensive training and practice for the crew drills
involved on the various pieces of equipment used with the Patriot Missile systems. Augmenting
instructor-led training, the App includes video, a realistic 3D environment in which to practice the drills,
cautions and warnings at appropriate steps, and knowledge checks to reinforce learning.
The iPhone App allows soldiers to practice the crew member drills any time and any place—while they
wait their turn for the hands-on practice, or back in the barracks, or in the classroom. Equivalent
training is provided on a PC, so that the instructor can use the PC version during lectures, and each
student can be following along on an iPhone.
Earning its second award this year, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) won a silver award
for its Virtual Orientation Center (VOC), developed by C².
The Virtual Orientation Center was created for the NRC to enhance the orientation currently given to
new employees during their first day of work on-site. The VOC provides a preliminary orientation
experience designed to orient new employees to the mission of the agency, key policies that will affect
their employment, what to expect in their first days and weeks on the job, and other information on the
benefits of working for the NRC.
Also receiving a silver award was the Next Generation Air Transportation System course, better known
as NextGen—a course about the biggest overhaul of our national airspace system since its inception in
the 1950s. NextGen is basically a collection of initiatives to improve the capacity, efficiency, safety,
security, and environmental impact of aviation in the United States, and our aviation safety team plays
an important role in all these efforts.
C² created this course to contain basic knowledge checks to reinforce the information presented;
however, the power behind the course is the use of 3D, animation, and video to illustrate difficult-to-
envision technologies and topics.
The Davey Awards is judged and overseen by the International Academy of the Visual Arts (IAVA), an
organization of 200-plus members—leading professionals from various disciplines of the visual arts
dedicated to embracing progress and the evolving nature of traditional and interactive media.
