CLAUDIA TAYLOR “LADYBIRD” JOHNSON HIGH SCHOOL
ADOPT-A-JAG
2011-2012 BAND SPONSORSHIP PROGRAM
Dear Friends and Family:
I am a member of the Claudia Taylor Johnson High School Varsity Marching Band and this year we are heading to
Indianapolis, Indiana to compete in the Bands of America Grand Nationals. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for
me and I am so excited to be part of a fellowship of students who share the same passion and commitment to music
as I do. The Johnson Band has taught me discipline, responsibility, and skills that will benefit me far beyond my high
school years. Please read on how you can help me realize my goals.
Who we are:
Claudia Taylor “Ladybird” Johnson High School opened in August of 2008 as the NEISD’s seventh comprehensive high
school. The band program at Johnson High School is comprised of approximately 226 woodwind, brass, percussion,
and color guard students from the Northeast communities of San Antonio. Students at Johnson received fundamental
instrumental training as members of the Frank M. Tejeda or Barbara Bush Middle School band programs, with many
others joining us from other schools around the United States.
What we do:
In only their 3rd year the Johnson High School Marching Band performed at an outstanding level and earned incredibly
high honors in 2010-2011; the band went on to achieve 1st place at the Rough Rider Marching Contest, placed into
finals at both Bands of America Houston and San Antonio Super-Regionals, as well as advancing to the UIL Texas
State Marching Band Contest for the first time in the school’s history. Both the Wind Ensemble and Symphony Band
have earned exclusively Sweepstakes Ratings at UIL Concert and Sight Reading Contest since the school opened. In
2011, Johnson also placed two students into the Texas All State Band, one of the highest honors a high school
musician can achieve in the United States.
2011-2012 BAND SEASON
The Varsity Marching Band will compete at this year's Bands of America Grand Nationals Marching Competition in
Indianapolis, Indiana. The BOA Grand National Championships is recognized as the premier marching band event in
the nation. Ninety bands from across America will participate, and I am thrilled to be part of such a unique
opportunity. As a member of the Johnson Band, each year we begin our training in mid-summer and work very hard
throughout the fall months to perfect our show.
HOW YOU CAN HELP
In order to participate in the Grand Nationals event, each member of the organization is required to pay
approximately $1,675 in member and traveling fees. The price of membership includes travel, food, uniforms,
equipment, housing, and many other expenses incurred over the trip.
Currently, I am seeking sponsorship contributions to help offset the cost of my trip. Any donation would make an
enormous difference in my ability to participate in this once in a lifetime event. I would ask that you please consider
sponsoring me by contributing directly to my student band account. If you choose to sponsor me, you may write a
check to Johnson High School with my name listed on the memo line.
Thank you for your consideration,
