Google Earth Math Measurement Directions
Go to: http://gpisdmath.wikispaces.com
Click on Google Earth Lab
Locate your school
Each school has its’ own handout and
Google Earth file. Scroll down to locate your
Click on the handout to print out for the
Click on the .kmz file which will open up in
Google Earth. If it does not open up in
Google Earth – open up Google Earth on
the computer and then click on the file
Once the file is uploaded you will see it on the left in Temporary Places
Make sure you click on the + sign
to open up the file which now
shows a – sign.
You need to double click on each blue title beginning with Home and … It will fly
to the places and includes directions that match the handout.
Click on directions tab to fly from
home to school
Place addresses in directions.
Click on the measurement tool and path tab to measure
Click on each line to get the mileage.
Go to Next Page
Use the scroll key on the mouse to get closer to an object.
If you do not have the
Navigation tools click on: On the right is the navigation tool
View (they cannot be seen on this copy)
Students will click on each place until they finish.
When finished and ready to click out of Google Earth you will be asked if you
want to save to the “My Places” folder. Yes,save and then the Measurement
lesson will be in Google Earth permanently and you will not have to send the
students to the WIKI.
It is now in Places and will open up
without going to the Wiki.
