CANADA EVENTING The Todd Sandler Autumn Classic at

Bromont a Huge Success



Ottawa, ON — Gwen Lehari of Uxbridge, ON, was the top Canadian rider in

the CCI 2* three-day-event at the CCI Bromont Three Day Event Todd

Sandler Autumn Classic, held September 20–23, 2007, at the Bromont

Olympic Equestrian Park in Bromont, QC.



Lehari, riding her horse Daniel, a 13-year-old Canadian-bred Belgium

Warmblood Thoroughbred cross gelding, was standing in 11th place, on a

score of 53.4, after dressage. She added just 12.8 cross country time

penalties and left all the rails up in the show jumping to finish in eighth

place overall on a score of 66.2.



Jan Byyny of Purcellville, VA, with Syd Kent, won the CCI 2* division on

their dressage score of 49.1.



Other Canadians competing in the CCI 2* division included Jenifer McGuire

of Uxbridge, ON, her own 14-year-old Canadian Sport Horse mare,

Prestigous, who finished in 13th place with final score of 93.5. Lehari’s

daughter, Kendal Lehari, riding her mother’s horse Understudy, a 10-year-

old thoroughbred gelding, in their first CCI 2* division, finished as the top

Canadian Young Rider in the division on a score of 94.5 for a 15th overall

placing. Penny Rowland of Orangeville, ON, with Don Good’s Irish Sport

Horse Charley Farley finished in 17th place while Peter Barry of Dunham,

QC, placed 18th overall with his own Selle Francais gelding Jefferson D’

Aurois. Young Rider Hilary Popiel of Carleton Place, ON, finished in 19th

place with the Canadian bred Thoroughbred cross mare Dawn at Hidden

Meadow owned by David Mattinson.



“I am very excited to compete with my daughter,” remarked Gwen Lehari.

“My horse jumped the best he has ever done, and I was pleased to have a

lot of horse left for the stadium jumping phase. We have such a

connection.”



Canadian riders dominated in the CIC 1* division with second place going

to Caitlin Wallace of St-Bernard, QC, and her horse Take the Chance, a 15-

year-old Appendix Quarter Horse gelding, with a score of 65.7. Wallace was

in fourth place following the dressage and incurred only 5.6 time penalties

during the cross-country and eight penalties in show jumping to finish with

a score of 65.7.

preliminary level,” noted Wallace. “By going so well, my horse proved to

me that he is ready to move up to intermediate in 2008.”



Close behind Wallace, in the CIC 1* division, was Young Rider Meghan

Baillie of Enniskillen, ON, aboard her six-year-old Irish Sport Horse gelding,

Stryker. The pair finished with a score of 66.3. Junior rider Sophie

Laframboise of Montreal, QC, and her horse Fleet Makani, a 17-year-old

Thoroughbred Appaloosa cross gelding, finished with 75.0 for fifth place.

Finishing in seventh place, with a score of 95.2, was Emily Daigneault of

Gatineau, QC, riding her horse Misty Vale Bacardi, a 12-year-old Morgan

gelding. Isabelle Landry of Napierville, QC, finished in ninth place with

Bourrasque, a 10-year-old Canadian thoroughbred owned by her father

Yves Landry.



The Todd Sandler Autumn Classic is held is in memory of Todd Sandler of

Dollard des Ormeaux, QC, a member of the 1999 Canadian Eventing Team

Talent Squad, who died tragically in a car accident in 1999 while returning

home from the Rolex Kentucky three-day event.



A CCI three-star competition is planned for June 12-15, 2008. Preparations

for the competition will include 30 new jumps on the cross-country course

and a new water complex. The three star course is being designed by

International Course Designer Derek Di Grazia of Carmel Valley, CA.
