RECOMMENDATIONS FROM
2009 POLICY FORUM PARTICIPANTS
RECOMMENDATIONS:
1. A number of participants emphasized on the entrepreneurship across curriculum, campus
wide entrepreneurship, and interdisciplinary entrepreneurship.
2. Designate a website where all of the HBCUs best practices in entrepreneurship are posted
3. Organize a two-day faculty development workshop for all HBCUs so that they can come and
lean about integrating entrepreneurship into the curriculum
4. International Entrepreneurship concept came from Southern University based on their
experience with Ghana and Uganda with State Department funding. Idea was that other HBCUs
can use that experience to develop their own programs
5. HBCU leadership and others should get seriously involved with the political and government
entities to ensure continuous support for HBCUs in terms of federal funding.
6. Designate a website for students to share ideas and networking capabilities
7. Designate one of the HBCUs as the clearinghouse for keeping records of entrepreneurial
activities and professional development.
8. Introduce a separate track for schools who do not have graduate programs.

SPECIAL APPEAL FROM THE
2006 NOBEL PEACE PRIZE WINNER
FOR HAITI
DR. MUHAMMAD YUNUS
2006 NOBEL PEACE PRIZE WINNER
The Grameen Creative Lab, headed by Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Muhammad Yunus, together
with the Yunus Centre and a German corporate partner are currently joining forces to support
sustainable economic development in Haiti by setting up a joint venture to support the start-up of
sustainable social businesses in Haiti. The aims of the whole initiative are to create a poverty-
free Haiti by empowering Haitians to help themselves through social business and to establish a
tool for crisis mitigation that can be applied in other areas. The joint venture will support and
provide funding to social businesses and social business ideas that focus on solving specific
social problems in sectors including vocational training, healthcare, renewable energy,
environmental stewardship and information technology. We carry the experience of having
established such successful and self-sustainable joint ventures in Bangladesh even with
international companies including Danone, Veolia and BASF to address social issues of
malnutrition, safe drinking water, and protection against malaria.
In the week of the 20th of April we will provide information on this project via social media and
also traditional media, which you are all very welcome to follow. Furthermore we are more than
happy for any support, such as from investors, potential Joint Venture partners, young
entrepreneurs and especially Haitians.
