Van Hollen Endorsed by NRA
Former US Attorney Receives Coveted Endorsement as Campaign Hits Home Stretch
[Waukesha, Wisc…] The National Rifle Association-Political Victory Fund has endorsed J.B. Van Hollen in his
campaign to become Wisconsin’s next attorney general.
“Law-abiding gun owners in Wisconsin have a steadfast friend in J.B. Van Hollen,” said Chris W. Cox, Chairman of
NRA - Political Victory Fund (PVF). "We are pleased to endorse Mr. Van Hollen for Wisconsin Attorney General,
because we know he will protect the Second Amendment and help preserve the shooting sports for future generations.
NRA-PVF urges all NRA members, gun owners and sportsmen in the Badger State to vote J.B. Van Hollen for
Attorney General.”
Van Hollen said the endorsement was another positive boost for the campaign.
“Peg Lautenschlager has let her personal bias against gun ownership stand in the way of the personal safety of
Wisconsin families,” said former United States Attorney Van Hollen, Republican candidate for attorney general. “I
am a firm supporter of the right to keep and bear arms and know individuals are guaranteed that right under the US
and Wisconsin Constitutions. I am honored to have the support of the NRA and their many members throughout
Wisconsin.”
Van Hollen campaign spokesman Brian Fraley said the latest endorsement is the most recent proof that the Primary
race has seen significant separation between Van Hollen and his primary opponent, Paul Bucher.
“Van Hollen is the only candidate endorsed by both Wisconsin Right to Life and Pro Life Wisconsin; Van Hollen is
the only candidate endorsed by Tommy Thompson; and now, Van Hollen is the only candidate endorsed by the
NRA,” said Fraley. “Every independent observer of Wisconsin Republican politics will tell you this is a political
juggernaut. With our television, radio and direct mail campaigns continuing and grassroots volunteers working in
every county, we’re peaking at the right time.”
An avid hunter and gun owner himself, Van Hollen is the only candidate for attorney general to have consistently
supported the rights of all trained, licensed citizens to carry a concealed weapon, a right enjoyed by residents of more
than 45 states.
Van Hollen is endorsed by the Wisconsin Troopers’ Association, the only statewide law enforcement organization to
endorse in the race for Attorney General. He is also backed by 26 sheriffs and 29 district attorneys, which are more
than his three opponents combined. Appointed as United States Attorney by President George W. Bush, J.B. Van
Hollen served as the chief federal law enforcement official in 44 Wisconsin counties.
