ASSISTANT PROFESSOR POSITION
The Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies in the School of Education at the University of Kansas is
seeking candidates for a tenure track position in K-12 educational leadership with responsibilities for teaching and
conducting research in one or more of the following areas: supervision of instruction, school leadership, human resource
management, educational business and finance, or a related area of educational administration. Special consideration will be
given to applicants committed to excellence who can contribute to the University’s innovative, collaborative, and
multidisciplinary initiatives to educate teachers, build healthy communities, and make discoveries that will change world.

Responsibilities include:
1. Establishing a strong and consistent program of research in K-12 educational leadership with emphasis in
one or more of the following areas: leadership, supervision of instruction, school leadership, human resource
management, educational business and finance, or a related area of educational administration.
2. Securing external funding as appropriate.
3. Teaching graduate level courses in K-12 leadership in one or more of the following areas: leadership,
supervision, human resource management, educational business and finance, and/or other areas within the
mission of the department on both the Lawrence and Edwards campuses.
4. Advising masters and doctoral students and sponsoring theses and dissertations. The primary teaching and
advising responsibilities will be in the department’s K-12 educational administrator preparation program, but
there may also be opportunities to teach in the department’s other programs: higher education, foundations,
and policy studies.
5. Associating with local, state and national school leaders and related groups.
6. Contributing to the service mission of the Department, School, and University.
Required Qualifications include:
1. Doctorate earned by August 2012 in educational administration or a related field.
2. Demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching courses in one or more of the following areas: K-12
leadership, supervision, human resource management, educational business and finance, and/or related areas
of educational administration.
3. Demonstrated potential for excellence in performing research in K-12 leadership in one or more of the
following areas: leadership, supervision, human resource management, educational business and finance, or
related areas of educational administration.
Preferred Qualifications include:
1. An emerging or established record of publication in refereed journals.
2. A record of submitting and/or securing external funding.
3. Teaching experience at the undergraduate and/or graduate level.
4. Experience as a K-12 administrator and/or significant experience working with K-12 administrators.
