The “quality points” values of grades at Kalamazoo College are as follows:

A+, A, A- = 4.0 B+, B, B- = 3.0 C+, C, C- = 2.0 D+, D, D- = 1.0 F=0

                                              How to calculate:

Example: a student carries a cumulative GPA of 3.444 and would like to
raise it to at least a 3.5. The student is taking 3 units for the upcoming
quarter.

1. Insert cumulative quality units: 9.0
     (listed on transcript under “quality”)

2. Add the number of units being taken this term: 3.0

3. Add the numbers from (1) and (2) to get total credits: 9.0 + 3.0 = 12.0

4. Insert the desired GPA here: 3.5

5. Insert the cumulative quality points here: 31.0
     (listed on transcript under “points”)

6. Calculate the desired quality points by multiplying the 3.5 * 12.0 = 42.0
desired GPA (4) by total credits (3):

7. Calculate the number of quality points needed by 42.0 – 31.0 = 11.0
subtracting (5) from (6):

8. Now divide the total needed quality points (7) 11.0 / 3.0 = 3.666
By the number of units being taken this term (2).
This is the GPA needed this quarter in order to
reach the goal GPA.

So a 3.666 GPA (11 quality points) is required to achieve a 3.5 GPA. You can
play around with the quality points values above to figure out what makes
11 quality points (it’s two A’s and a B).
