Penny War for Playground Swings
Penny Wars is a game where the object is to get as many points as possible during the “war”
by collecting coins for each classroom’s money jar. Jars will be located on a table in the HWS
Office. The War will run for the week of Nov. 15 – 19. Each day students will deposit their
coins into the jars (either their own class jar or a different class’s jar), but this is where the
strategy of the game begins!
Each penny collected counts as a point.
Every silver coin reduces the number of points from that container by the amount of the coin
(i.e. a nickel reduces the points by 5, a dime by 10, a quarter by 25). NO PAPER MONEY
(BILLS) WILL BE ACCEPTED.
Containers are emptied and counted daily. The total monetary amount of silver coins is
deducted from the total number of pennies for the day.
Amount totals for each class will be displayed on a large graph in the Multi-Purpose Room to
encourage friendly competition.
A traveling trophy will be awarded to the leading class each day! The trophy will be retained
by the class with the most overall points at the end of the Penny War.
All coins collected will go toward the goal of the purchase of playground swings and equipment,
so ALL win the war, with some competition and strategy along the way! Prizes will be awarded
to the class collecting the most pennies and the class with the most money collected.
