BASIC FUNCTION: Lead marketing research and strategy for University Relations. Reports to Associate Vice
President, University Communications and Marketing.


EXAMPLES OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Duties/essential functions may include, but not be limited to,
the following:
          Develop annual/ongoing marketing plans in partnership with priority university units such as enrollment
             management and colleges that differentiate Kent State.
                o Coordinate client meetings, document all relevant information and meet with a creative team to
                   determine and initiate resulting projects.

             Lead marketing strategy and planning efforts with other colleges, campuses, departments and
              academic programs as needed.

             Integrate unit strategies with Kent State’s overall marketing strategy.

             Serve as primary liaison with clients and communicate their needs to appropriate staff.

             Identify opportunities for multi-unit and/or multi-campus/system-wide marketing.

             Identify opportunities for marketing research efforts that will contribute to the enhancement of the Kent
              State brand.

             Manage marketing research projects needed for strategy development, program development or to
              address market issues and institutional opportunities.
                 o Coordinate internal and external resources to maximize research capacity and quality.

             Work with outside partners on marketing for collaborative programs.

             Evaluate the effectiveness of marketing initiatives to determine how well they met objectives.

             Supervise staff including hiring, training and evaluating performance and oversee outsourced work.

             Assist in budget planning related to marketing funding requirements.

             Represent Kent State at business and social functions, as well as special events related to clients.



MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in marketing or relevant field.

Seven to eight years of progressively responsible marketing experience in an organization of comparable size and
complexity that includes a minimum of 4 years in a senior capacity. Must possess experience in consulting and
client relations, developing marketing strategies and integrated marketing plans and the utilization of different
types of media.

Knowledge Of:
    Knowledge of services marketing and marketing strategy development.*
       Knowledge of marketing research and its integral role in marketing communications strategy and new
        program development.*
       Knowledge of and experience with different types of media and other tactics in the marketing process, such
        as direct mail and Web sites.*
       Working knowledge of relevant computer applications, especially Microsoft Office and Filemaker Pro.
       Demonstrated sensitivity to issues of diversity.

Skill In:
     Skill in written, verbal and interpersonal communication.*
       Personal and organizational flexibility.

Ability To:
     Ability to develop integrated marketing plans, marketing campaigns and effectively use the Kent State
        brand.*
       Ability to direct and implement marketing research and strategies.*
       Ability to use marketing research information to develop marketing strategy, including ability to analyze and
        understand markets including market segmentation.*
       Ability to gather and articulate client and project information needed for conceptual development, the
        creative process and implementation of marketing and communications materials.*
       Ability to function extremely well within a team-oriented environment.*
       Ability to provide leadership and direction and manage people and projects.*
       Ability to develop and implement process improvements in marketing communications production to
        increase flexibility and responsiveness.

Physical Requirements: Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of
force frequently, and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Typically requires sitting, walking,
standing, bending, keying, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.

Incumbent may be required to travel from building to building frequently and off campus occasionally.
