Frank R. Gast
A celebration of life will be held at 10 a.m. Dec. 18 at
Bainbridge Town Hall for Frank R. Gast, 71, who died Sept. 1 in the
palliative care unit of St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield, Wisc. He
lived in Bainbridge from 1964 until 2002, when he moved with his wife
to Lac du Flambeau, Wisc.
A former resident of Bainbridge who volunteered for the Kenston
Band Boosters, he helped build shelters and the playground at Settlers
Park in Bainbridge. He also made maple syrup each spring at Bob and Jan
Haskins' farm in Bainbridge.
Born Sept. 24, 1932, in Racine, Wisc., he attended Horlick High
School there. He was a charter member of the Caledonia Volunteer Fire
Department.
A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he served from 1956-57 on the USS
Eldorado and in the Naval Reserves until 1962.
He married Roberta on Sept. 2, 1961, and received his bachelor of
science in mechanical engineering in 1963 from the University of
Wisconsin-Madison.
Mr. Gast was a hydraulic engineer for the Euclid and Terex
corporations in Cleveland and worked as a consultant for Allied
Construction Products.
He enjoyed gardening, the outdoors, classic cars, bluegrass and
folk music, auto racing, maple sugaring and collecting.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Rebecca
(PJ Bernard) Gast, of Cape Cod, Mass.; son, Bryan (Stacy) Gast, of
Medina; grandchildren, Brett, Shayne, Bradley and Shelby; brother,
Roger (Marjorie) Gast, of Caledonia, Wisc.; and sister, Suzanne Bell,
of Arlington, Texas.

Hansen, Milton C.
> MADISON - Milton C. Hansen, age 89, died on Sunday, March 26, 2006. He was born
in Racine, Wis., on Jan. 20, 1917, the son of Hans Christian and Petra (Petersen) Hansen.
Milt was raised in a Danish-American community in Racine, where he attended Horlick
High School. He enrolled at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, but left during World
War II to enlist in the U.S. Army, where he earned the rank of First Lieutenant. He
returned to school in Madison and graduated with a bachelor of science degree in
chemistry in 1947. After college, Milt was employed for six years as a chemist in
Milwaukee and Chicago. While working full-time, he attended evening law classes at
Loyola University. In Chicago, he met Patricia Bellamy, whom he married in 1951. He
received his J.D. degree from Loyola in 1953. He was employed as a patent attorney at
the Quaker Oats Company in Barrington, Ill., from 1956 until 1979. Milt was a kind,
thoughtful, community-minded man. Since he attended law school under benefit of the
G.I. Bill, he later helped to start a community college in Palatine, Ill. He was elected to
William Rainey Harper College's first Board of Trustees, which hired the president,
selected the site, and chose the school's name. He was a member of the Board from 1964
until 1973. During the two years that he served as Chairman of the Board, Harper College
was the first two-year school in Illinois to become fully accredited. Milt was listed in the
1972 edition of Who's Who in the Midwest. After retirement, Milt and Pat moved to
Tucson, Ariz., and Oceanside, Calif., before moving back to the Midwest to be near
family. They lived in Monona for seven years prior to becoming residents of the
Oakwood Retirement Community of Madison. Milt was preceded in death by his wife of
53 years, Patricia, and his infant grandson, Quincy Pekarek. He is survived by two
daughters, Cheryl Mari Hansen of Madison, and Joyce (Bob) Pekarek of Hillsboro; six
grandchildren, Evan, Heidi, Joseph, Rachel, Levi and Robert Pekarek; and a sibling,
Eleanor Bishop of Milwaukee. A memorial concert will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, June
30, 2006, in the Oakwood Auditorium at OAKWOOD VILLAGE WEST, 6209 Mineral

Wilbur H. Hansen
July 22, 1914 - August 25, 2004
Rockford ? Wilbur H. Hansen, 90, of Rockford, formerly of Freeport, died Wednesday,
August 25, 2004 in Rockford.
Born July 22, 1914 in Racine, Wisconsin, he was the son of Andrew and Otillia
(Wingreen) Hansen. He married Marjorie H. Wheeland October 4, 1951 in Freeport.
After graduating with honors in 1932 from Horlick High School in Racine he joined the
Civilian Conservation Corps and assisted in building Starved Rock State Park as well as
other projects. His love for the outdoors developed when he worked in the Minnesota
Boundary Waters as a guide at Gateway Lodge, Hungry Jack Lake, on the Gunflint Trail.
In 1938 he spent 2 years working in Idaho and Oregon as a lumberjack. In 1940 he
enlisted in the Army Air Corps and was trained as an instructor in engine maintenance for
B17 bombers. During the war he reached the rank of Staff Sergeant and served in
England. He was honorably discharged in 1945 after 5 years of service.
He returned to the Gunflint Trail in Minnesota and resumed his work as a canoe guide
while beginning a search for a suitable site for a resort of his own. In 1949 he purchased
an old sawmill and farm with 1000 feet of shoreline on Bowstring Lake in Minnesota.
He built it into a successful business called Hansen?s Camp, which he owned and
operated until 1972, when he sold and moved to Freeport. The resort is still in operation
under the name Geiger?s Trails End.
He was building manager of the Freeport Masonic Temple for many years until his
retirement. He was stage manager of the Freeport Scottish Rite Bodies.
His memberships included First Lutheran Church, 33rd degree Mason of Evergreen
Masonic Lodge no. 170, for which he was a past Master and past Secretary, Rockford
Tebala Drum and Bugle Corps, Freeport Consistory, Scottish Rite and York Rite Bodies,
White Shrine of Jerusalem, Eastern Star, Red Cross of Constantine, and VFW. He served
as secretary for both High Twelve International and Golden K Kiwanis, of which he was
a charter member. For many years he did stage work for Winneshiek Theatre,
volunteered with youth in local schools, and served the Jane Addams Mental Health
Center as a carpenter and handyman. He leaves a long legacy of dedicated, quiet service
to the Freeport community, with affiliations too numerous to list.
Surviving is his wife, Marjorie; his daughter, Debra (Duane) Phillips; 2 grandchildren,
Devin Phillips and Rachel Phillips, all of Rockford.
His parents; 3 brothers; 7 sisters; and 5 infant siblings preceded him in death.
Cremation rites will be accorded.
Friends may call Saturday 4 to 7 p.m. at Walker Mortuary where at 7 p.m. there will be a
Masonic Service.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Letta G. Harcus
May 17, 1921 -- Oct. 28, 2005
Letta G. Harcus, 84, of Fremont died Friday at home.
She was born in Racine, Wis., the daughter of the now-deceased Otto R. and Caroline W.
(Eichman) Saas. She graduated from Horlick High School. She married Robert P. Harcus on
April 29, 1969 at Atonement Lutheran Church in Racine, Wis., and he survives.
She was employed with the Fremont City School System in food
ADVERTISEMENT service. She retired in September 1994.
She is survived by her sons, William J. (Linda) Armstrong, Fremont, and John W. (Aida)
Armstrong, Daytona Beach, Fla.; sister, Ruth Hagert, Racine, Wis.; four grandchildren; and four
great-grandchildren. She is also preceded in death by brother, Earl Saas; and sister, Ester Saas.
Letta loved to garden and read. She loved watching sports and her favorite team is the "Chicago
Cubs." She loved animals.
She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and the Daughters Circle at the church. She was
also a member of the VFW Auxiliary.
Visitation: Private.
Graveside services: 11 a.m. Tuesday at Greenlawn Memory Gardens, Clyde
Burial: Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Clyde.

Beraldine W. Jensen Hennings
Beraldine W. Jensen Hennings, nee Krueger, age 85 years, of Grafton, formerly of
Racine, passed away in the early morning hours of Saturday, September 10, 2005 at
Becker Shoop Nursing Center at Lincoln Lutheran in Racine.
Beraldine was born on January 20, 1920 the daughter of William Krueger and Emma
Gerske Krueger. She graduated from Horlick High School in Racine. She was employed
as an assembler for 10 years at Oster Manufacturing. After leaving there Mrs. Hennings
worked as a secretary for Insinkerator.
On June 15, 1968 Beraldine married Marvin A. Hennings. Their previous spouses had
passed away due to serious illnesses.
In addition to being a wonderful, loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and great-
grandmother, she excelled in cake decorating, painting with oils, decoupage, coke bottle
dolls (90 of them), sewing and decorating eggs. She also enjoyed dancing, movies, golf,
traveling and Scrabble.
Mrs. Hennings is survived by her husband of 37 years Marvin of Grafton, son Richard
(Patti) Jensen, daughter Sandra Anderson Jensen, stepsons Kevin (Cathy Jamrog)
Hennings, and Kim (Lynette) Hennings. She is further survived by 11 grandchildren, 5
great-grandchildren, a sister Gwen (Al) Horton, a sister-in-law Ann (Earl) Hennings,
nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, her
first husband Gordon B. Jensen and 4 brothers and 1 sister.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 16 2005, 11:30 AM at Grace
Lutheran Church 714 5th Avenue in Grafton, with Pastor Paul Bulgerin officiating.
Burial will take place in Woodlawn Cemetery in Grafton. Visitation will be at the church
on Friday the 16th from 9:30 to 11:30 AM.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Becker Shoop Nursing Center
(Lincoln Lutheran) of Racine and all their employees for the compassionate care and
loving kindness they have shown to a dear wife, mother and grandmother.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to any of the following would be appreciated; Grace
