The W-WMS Junior Beta Club met during Extended Learning Time
(ELT) on March 16. They discussed plans for an inaugural “Beta Ball”
tournament to be held in the gym on April 29 during the school day. Beta
Ball is a game like dodge ball that the students will play against the teach-
ers who wish to participate. Students can sign up to play for $2.00, or can
buy tickets to attend the game for $1.00. Half of the money raised will go
toward Haiti earthquake relief. The other half will go to Relay for Life, a
local event that benefits the American Cancer Society.
W-WMS Future Business Leaders of America met on March 18. Jemi
Davis was elected vice president to fill a vacated position. FBLA will hold
a membership drive for the upcoming eighth graders the week after spring
break. Students can sign up to attend the membership drive meeting which
will be held on Thursday, April 15, during ELT. Dues are $8.00 for state
and national membership.
The Georgia Retired Educators Association awarded students who had a
95 average in their academic classes for the first semester. Those students
were: in the sixth grade, Meredith Gunter, Paden McTier, and Ethan Year-
wood; in the seventh grade, Ashlyn Holley, Divesia Lee, Amy McAvoy,
Madison Powell, and Hope Ward; in the eighth grade, Ariel Brown, Payton
Burris, and Logan Griffin. These students were awarded certificates for a
job well done in a ceremony performed in the school lobby.
The middle school baseball team traveled to Lincoln County on Saturday,
March 20. They lost with the final score 8-1. Good pitching was made by
Justin Meyers. On March 25, the Tigers faced Wrens where they lost 8-1.
Even though they lost, there were some good hits by Jackson Armour, Justin
Myers, and Jack Martin, and some good pitching by Brannon Saggus.
