Evaluation Analysis

The two links below take you to two image files of the evaluation survey that users of my project site
completed. The survey was created by using the Virginia Tech survey creation tool and the results were
compiled within this same tool.

As mentioned above, the simple survey was created using the online survey tool that Virginia Tech
offers its students and faculty. This tool has been an invaluable resource for me throughout this program
and it fit well into the scope of this project. The survey has three multiple choice questions and once
open-ended essay question for people to answer. In addition the survey asks the person filling it out to
include their position—a teacher or an administrator. This will be helpful for me as I go over the results
in terms of continued additions to the site. The results from the questions used in this simple survey are
the following:
As can be seen by the image below, the results were generally positive. The project was rated “Looks
Very Nice” by eight out of nine of the respondents. Though this sample size seems small, it is my hope
that this evaluation will continually be used by users of this site in the future, offering feedback so that I
can improve the site even more.
In addition to those multiple choice questions in the survey, there were written responses to the
usefulness of the site. These can be seen in the image below, or by clicking on the link at the top of this
document.
The comments that are written above are very helpful in terms of making decisions about what to
change in terms of the future of this site. There were some very concrete suggestions that I will put to
use right away. For example, one respondent has asked that I provide video tutorial on how to add
formulas to an excel spreadsheet. Since we use Microsoft Excel a lot in our math curriculum, this will be
a useful screencast to have available.
Another suggestion or comment was that some of the screencasts were difficult to follow because they
were too small. This one will be a little bit of a challenge to address, but it can be done. In order to make
the screencasts large, I will need to change a setting at the site where the videos are hosted, utipu.com.
There is a way to allow the videos to be embedded in a larger size. By doing this though, I will need to
make substantial changes to the current website on which they are now hosted. This can be done
through finding a new WordPress theme that can be applied which then allows the larger videos to be
seen on the screen.
Another option is to recompile the screencasts in such a way that they are downloadable in a high-
quality format. This can be done, but I am not sure exactly how to go about doing this. It is something
that I will look into and seriously consider.
Finally, a shortcoming of my project is the number of evaluators. Some people, even when asked, did
not choose to do the evaluation survey. This loss of respondents is something that I will try to overcome
as this site is rolled out and used throughout our school division.
