Old Market Retailer Featured in Statewide Magazine
NORFOLK, NEB., September 16, 2009 – Old Market retailer the Nebraska Clothing Company
is featured in the September/October 2009 issue of Nebraska Life Magazine.
In the full-page story, writer and photographer Jeff Barnes introduces readers to the store, and
more specifically, its Bugeater apparel line. A nickname for the Cornhusker football team in the
late 1800s, the Bugeater name was revived in 1994 by then-owner of the Nebraska Clothing
Company, Brad Ashford. Ashford brought the name back, with permission from the university,
to celebrate the centennial of the Nebraska Clothing Company.
The Bugeater apparel line continues to be a hit, especially with tourists. Current owner of the
Nebraska Clothing Company, Debbie Meyer, said, “They think it’s silly and unique, and a great
conversation piece. More often than not I have to tell the story.”
