Cage Size: A ten gallon for a juvenile. A 30 gallon for a adult.
Cage Requirements: Tank, screen top, heat pad (used for food digestion &
night time warmth), fluorescent full spectrum 10.0 light is the most important
light for this reptile, without it deformation or death may result (THIS STRIP
LIGHT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AT LEAST EVERY 6 MONTHS-IT
WILL START LOSING POWER AS SOON AS IT IS TURNED ON FOR
THE 1ST TIME), incandescent light (used for necessary heat & UVA rays),
substrate, food and water dishes. You will need to mist their cage once a day.
You can spot clean their cage when needed. Once a month you will need to
clean your cage with a weak solution of bleach and water and replace all
substrate.
Temperature: Day 80 to 86 degrees. Night 70 to 75 degrees.
Substrate: Reptile bark, aspen, alpha pellets, timothy or alpha hay.
Food: Romaine, mustard greens, carrots, squash, zucchini, berries,
cantaloupe, banana, watermelon, boiled chicken, boiled eggs, crickets,
earthworms, mealworms, pellet turtle food, etc. It is very important to give
them a wide variety in their diets. You will need to dust their food two to three
times a week with a vitamin and calcium supplement.
Facts: They need to be soaked in water every other day. Be sure the water is
shallow and room temperature. Vita shell turtle wax is an important
supplement to help with shell development and growth.
