GETTING STARTED
Soar After Davidson, Explore Your Options Now: Grad School, Job, Service, Adventure or the “Big Other”
Thursday, August 28, 2008, 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. or Friday, August 29, 2008, 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Don Asher, author and liberal arts career expert, will actively engage seniors in defining the post-Davidson options
that best suit them and will help students determine action steps needed to reach their goals. Students pursuing
options including the job search, graduate school, service, adventure or as Asher names it, the "Big Other," will reap
benefits from attending his interactive and entertaining presentation.
Senior Salute: Friday, August 29, 2008
An all day event to celebrate the Class of 2009. Students will pick up their cap and gown, record their name for
commencement pronunciation etc. Students can also sign up for workshops and events. Seniors are required to
attend this event.
Getting Started on the Job or Career Search: September 1 to September 5
Career Services will present an hour long session on the job/career search on alternating days of the week.
Attendees will learn about issues facing them, an ideal timeline to pursue as they conduct a job search, on and off
campus interview opportunities.
Getting Started on the Graduate/Professional School Admissions Process: September 1 to September 5
Career Services will present an hour long session on the graduate/professional school on alternating days of the
week. Attendees will learn about issues facing them, an ideal timeline to pursue as they pursue post-Davidson
education prospects and upcoming graduate/professional school fairs.
DEVELOPING THE TOOLS
Resumes
Writing a Winning Resume Workshop: Monday, September 8 and Tuesday, September 9
Learn how to create a top-notch resume. Make yours stand out from the pile by knowing exactly how to
communicate your strengths in the most effective way. 30 minutes long, offered all day in Career Services
Resume Critiques
Alumni/Employer Resume Critiques: Fridays, September 12, September 26
Alumni and employers from various industries will be on campus to help with resume critiques. Students will sign
up to participate through eCareers.
Walk-in Resume Critiques: Monday, September 8 to Friday, September 12
Career Services staff will conduct resumes critiques for one hour each day.
Resume Contest
Submit your resume to be judged for a contest. Up to two $75 gift certificates to Amazon.com will be awarded.
You will receive feedback from professionals on your resume. Apply through eCareers, employer name Career
Services by Monday, October 6
Cover Letters
Dynamite Cover Letter Workshop: Wednesday, September 10 and Thursday, September 11
Cover letters are as important as your resume. During this 30 minute workshop, learn cover letter writing skills that
will allow you to create powerful cover letters that communicate that you are the best candidate for the positions to
which you apply.
Networking
Networking Workshops: Monday, September 15, Tuesday, September 23
Find out about the tool of networking and how to implement it as a strategy for exploring occupations, graduate
schools and employment prospects. 30 minute workshops will be throughout the day.
Graduate School
Graduate School Faculty Panels: September 8 to September 12
Attend an hour long panel on graduate school in various disciplines including social sciences, humanities, natural
sciences. Find out tips for selecting graduate programs and what the graduate school experience is like
Law School Admissions Panel: Wednesday, September 10
Hear from law school admissions representatives during an hour long panel on law school. Learn about what law
admissions representatives are looking for and what law schools is like.
Interviewing
Interviewing workshop: Wednesday, September 17 and Thursday, September 18
Learn what you must do to prepare for interview success including how to research for your interview, what to wear,
how to respond to questions and what to do before, after and during your interview. 30 minutes workshops will be
offered throughout the day in Career Services.
Mock Interviews: Friday, September 19 and Friday, October 3
Alumni and employers from various industries will be on campus to conduct mock interviews. Students will sign up
to participate through eCareers
Image Management Workshops: Tuesday, September 16 and Monday, September 22.
Learn about how to make a good impression in your correspondence, phone presence, interview and work contexts
in a 30 minute image management workshop offered every 30 minutes in Career Services.
Dress for Success, Wednesday, September 17.
Learn how to make a good impression with what you wear for interviews, information sessions and networking
conversations.
MAKING CONNECTIONS
Working a Career Fair Workshop: Monday, September 22 and Tuesday, September 23
Learn how to make the most of campus career fairs. Find out how to prepare, how to develop your introduction,
what to bring, what to wear and how to follow up after the fair is over. 30 minute workshops will be offered
throughout the day in the Career Services Office.
Career Fair: Wednesday, September 24 noon to 3 p.m.
Talk with employers about full-time job opportunities and graduate school admissions representatives about
graduate school. Be sure to have your resume critiqued prior to the day of the fair in order to have copies printed
and ready for the fair.
Young Alumni Reception: Thursday, September 25, 6p.m. to 8 p.m.
Come to this reception and find out about the careers of young Davidson alumni. This is a great opportunity to talk
to people about their occupations and share with them about what kinds of jobs you are seeking

Attend this 30 minute workshop and learn tips for finding what you are looking for using eCareers, Davidson
Colleges career services resource hosting graduate school and employer information, job and internship postings,
interview schedules, Career Services event details, and Davidson alumni mentor information.
