17:00 Exports increased by 41.4% in January- April compared with
the same period of the last year...
According to the provisional data, in April 2008; exports grew by 37.0% and reached to 11,375
Million Dollars, and imports grew by 38.3% and reached to 17,869 Million Dollars. At the same
period, foreign trade deficit raised by 40.8%, reached from 4,614 Million Dollars to 6,494
Million Dollars.
In April 2008 exports coverage imports was 63.7% while it was 64.3% in 2007.
In January-April 2008, exports grew (41.4% in 2008 compared with 2007) to 44,524 Million
Dollars; imports grew (39.3% in 2008 compared with 2007) to 67,022 Million Dollars. As
compared with the same period of the previous year, the foreign trade deficit was up by 35.2%
reached to 22,499 Million Dollars.
51.3% of the exports to the European Union...
The weight of the EU in Exports has continued in January-April 2008 period. As compared
with the same period of the previous year, exports to EU were 22,854 Million Dollars
increased by 26.8%. The proportion of the EU countries was 51.3% while the proportion of
Free Zones in Turkey was 2.4% and the others was 46.2%.
In January-April 2008, the main partner for exports was Germany with 4,596 Million Dollars
and increased by 26.8%. In April 2008, exports to Germany was 1,193 Million Dollars and
increased by 31.7% in comparison with the same period of the previous year. For exports,
Germany was followed by Italy (817 Million Dollars), the UK (735 Million Dollars), France (638
Million Dollars), Russia (625 Million Dollars) and UAE (552 Million Dollars).
In January-April 2008, while the European Union Countries were the most intensive country
group for imports (26,068 Million Dollars), followed by other European Countries (14,446
Million Dollars), Asian Countries (18,312 Million Dollars) and Free Zones in Turkey (474
Million Dollars).

For April 2008, the top country for Turkey’s imports was Russia (2,974 Million Dollars), records
for imports range from Germany (1,657 Million Dollars), China (1,218 Million Dollars), Italy
(1,038 Million Dollars) and the USA (993 Million Dollars).
Road vehicles are forfront in exports according to chapters...
For January-April 2008, road vehicles and their parts has by far the highest value exported at
7,165 Million Dollars and then, iron and steel 3,972 Million Dollars, machineries, mechanical
appliances, boilers, equipments and parts 3,524 Million Dollars, articles of apparel and
clothing accessories 2,786 Million Dollars and gold, pearl and other precious stone and
products, coins 2,784 Million Dollars,.
At the same period, the top categories for imports were mineral fuels and mineral oils (15,080
Million Dollars) and then machineries, mechanical appliances, boilers, equipments and parts
(7,998 Million Dollars) and iron and steel (7,600 Million Dollars).

According to Broad Economic Categories Classification, imports of intermediate goods,
increased by 39.9%, and imports of capital goods increased by 30.7% and imports of
consumption goods increased by 46.2%, respectively.
