Motions passed in the last 10 years and the
committee’s responsible for them:
Board Development:
01/02 Potential candidates for available board positions will be selected based upon
submissions by the regional chairs.
Finance:
05/98 $1000 per region, per year will be allocated to cover expenses, subject to approval
of headquarters.
02/99 Each committee needing monies for specific projects will make a formal request
for the funds to the Board of Directors on a project to project basis.
01/05 An audit of the association financial records will be conducted every three years
unless the board feels a need sooner.
Industry Standards Committee:
01/05 Response Time is calculated as the number of regular working hours the
service company takes between the time the call was placed at the service agency
and the time when the technician arrived at the location for service. For statistical
purposes, it should exclude emergency or scheduled service calls.
Clear Communication is an ETA, status of repair, next step to follow, define if
warranty or non- warranty, labor rate, overtime, estimate if requested along with
recommendation by/to any appropriate party.
First Call Fix is defined as the reported complaint is completely repaired on the
first trip. No return trip is necessary.
OEM Parts are parts sold directly or indirectly by the Original Manufacturer of
the piece of equipment.
Education:
05/96 The association will adopt full ASCII 128 as the standard.
10/00 the CFESA certification exams will be made available to employees of CFESA
member companies only.
The CFESA technician training program will be made available to all foodservice
industry employees, at a rate of double the published price that a member would pay. In
addition, no more than one employee, per non-member company will be eligible for
training.
01/02 The CFESA Master Certification title will be granted to a technician who has
successfully passed three different CFESA certification exams, regardless of the
category.
06/02 Once a technician has passed any of the certification tests, they will be
issued a certification number with their areas of certification, e.g. 12345E
(certified in electric), 12345EGSR (master certified technician trained in electric,
gas, steam or refrigeration). A list of certification numbers (not names) would be
available on the CFESA web site. CFESA warranty forms would have this
certification number under the “Service Technician’s Name.”
A “CFESA Certified Technician” will retain certification for five years, from the
date of the last certification, no matter if they are working for the company
employed by while being certified, employed by a non-CFESA member company
or self-employed. After a five-year period, if the technician is not employed by a
CFESA member, all certifications will be revoked.
After a five year period, the technician must be recertified as below:
1. Be employed by a CFESA member company and show proof of
ongoing training with at least two completion certificates, in the
area of certification, from either CFESA training schools or
manufacturer training schools from the date of the last
certification obtained.
2. The above requirement is waived if the employee is employed
by a CFESA Certified Company.
A technician cannot be recertified if:
1. They are not employed by a CFESA member company after five
years from the last certification date.
2. They are employed by a CFESA member company, but have not
shown proof of ongoing education.
All existing technician certifications remain valid and will automatically get a 5-
year extension period beginning from January 1, 2002.
Business Technology:
07/05 Rather than rewrite the warranty reporting software, CFESA will now refer
members to SMG’s warranty center.
Membership Services:
09/96 All applications for membership shall be approved by the Membership
Chair and the Second Vice President, rather than approved by the entire Board of
Directors, as long as all the required criteria has been met.
06/01 The Code of Ethics will appear in the CFESA membership directory.
All Elwood Hawkins Memorial Award recipients will have the same privileges as
an Honorary Member (i.e. free conference registration). The award recipient is
described as follows: (not to be included in the Bylaws)
“The Elwood Hawkins Memorial Award is given to a non-voting member of
CFESA who has proven to be a promoter and advocate of our association. The
recipient has taken an active role in CFESA’s committees and projects and has
been a liaison between our association and their own, always striving to improve
the industry. A lifetime recipient is invited to attend any and all association
functions free of charge. Nominations for the Elwood Hawkins Memorial Award
must be submitted in writing, by a member of the Board of Directors, stating the
reasons for the submission. The nominee must have an approval of two-thirds
(2/3) of the Board of Directors. This vote will be by closed ballot.”
07/05 The CFESA compensation survey should be discontinued until further
notice.
